Food Addict + Pre-Op Diet = Raging B**** :-(

Recommended Posts

start googling ideas for soothing yourself without food. music, deep breathing, walks in nature, painting, dancing, making videos, reading, baths..... there are a million and one ways to soothe yourself, start looking for and practicing them. you might as well deal with it now, its even more dramatic after the surgery.

i found a bunch of "binaural beats" (music that induces a relaxation state in the brain) apps on itunes. sleep stream 2 is my favorite so far.

my 22 year old cat died less than 3 weeks after my surgery. i realized that night i had to learn to cope with my feelings with put food, it was a very intense few days. things are better in a year, but i still feel compelled to soothe myself with food, even though i cant. its all a process.

My nutritionist said that I can either do a shake at Breakfast and lunch or breakfast and dinner I chose the second option, so I have my shake in the morning then eat something like a chicken salad or tuna salad with greek yogurt then after work I go home and have my second shake for dinner. Im only on day one so wish me luck.

I'm ending my 6th day pre-op diet (I get two shakes and one meal at dinner with a Protein, veggie and carb) and I find myself counting the hours of the day until I can eat that dinner. It's awful. I have bitten my husband's head off more times than I'd like to count, and I've been going to bed early simply because I don't want to think about food anymore! I ordered the Emotional Eating book that has been recommended on this site and started reading it last night.

I'm scared for the journey ahead. I know it will be worth it, I know my health will improve, I know that I will have to make modifications and exercise (which I loathe). Gotta keep on keeping on.

Can you tell about the Emotional Eating book? I am new to this site. Thank you

I have been seeing a counselor for the last year that deals with food related issues to prepare for my surgery. I quit smoking 3 years and food replaced smoking. So I can commiserate. It is almost like going through withdrawal. :-( and you are right, it is only food. But that food has been your friend. Counseling is helping me and might be something you consider. Either way, don't be so hard on yourself. You've got this!!!!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
