demmemoon 0 Posted April 29, 2007 Once you have your first fill (and then consecutive fills), what is your ideal calorie consumption for the day? My doctor says some do well on 1000-1200 calories a day while others do better on 1300-1500. Thanks!
marys 2 Posted April 29, 2007 I can and only have started losing on 600-800 - my doc said 1200 too but it didn't work for me. Personally I'd eat as much as I could as long as i was losing weight. I'm exercising for the next 7 days in a row and seeing how that works with this lower caloric intake. Prior to that I ate about 1200 a day and snow skied strenuously 4-7 days a week - NADA. i believe there are only a handful of folks like me so don't let it get you down. It's not always ONLY calories in/out for many of us - you should play around with what works for you. I would definitely suggest keeping a very accurate food journal (i like fitday.com) as most of us seriously underestimate our intake.
Jachut 487 Posted April 29, 2007 I never discussed calorie levels with my doc, I wouldnt know what I ate unless every now and then I added it up and its always been about 1500 or so, sometimes as much as 1800. With 2.5ml in my band, its more often 1500 these days, unless i happen to eat something high calorie that goes down well. If pressed, my doc would say oh, keep your diet low fat, cut out the white carbs, plenty of fruit and vegetables. That's as much as he'd commit to - he did the surgery, the diet side of it is my job. They're not big on "dieting" with the band where I went, its meant to be more of a lifestyle change, so daily calorie counting isnt emphasised, which temperamentally suits me very well. Still I do add it up now and then because its super easy to start eating more without being aware of it. After so many years of dieting, I know the calorie count of every food known to modern man and I usually mentally tote it up throughout the day.

Jade 0 Posted April 30, 2007 You've got to weigh yourself everyday and choose an excercise program you can commit to so that you are able to measure the needs of your daily caloric intake. It varies so much from person to person. For the first six months, I excercised 3-4 times a week with only hour cardio and taking in 800 calories (no sugars- no carbs!). I lost weight at a rate of 10-12 lbs a month. I am up to 1000 now and have plateued. I excercise 3-4 times a week with an hour cardio (first hour) and then an hour of strength (pilates or lifting barbells). I think it might be from building muscle mass. I can't complain because my hard work as really paid off where I am keeping up with the bypassers. Most importantly, my labs are great and I am in great shape. I was one of the luckier ones where I was constricted right after surgery. My band is on the smaller side and I haven't had to do much adjustment. So whenever I start fizzling- I get a consultation for a fill and my calories will drop back to 800 calories a day. You will have to play around but the scale will be your objective standard. Good Luck!
Crishell 0 Posted April 30, 2007 My doc told me 1,000-1,100 calories daily. I had my first fill on 4/11. I work out 4X per week at Curves. I think I need to decrease my calories a little and increase my workout time to maximize my weight loss.
WASaBubbleButt 41 Posted April 30, 2007 My doc says 800 calories daily, I say 600. It's working for me but many don't like to cut back that much.

Shellybeans 0 Posted May 7, 2007 I am averaging 800-900 calories per day before any exercise. With exercise, it turns out to be around 600-700 daily.
losingjusme 12 Posted May 7, 2007 i average 1200 - 1700 a day. it depends on how hard i work out that morning. i have been working my @$$ off lately and burning over 1000 cals a day. i cannot survive on just 200 cals of fuel a day. but everyone is different. experiment and log everything!! use fitday (free) or myfooddiary (i use this one, but there is a monthly fee) good luck! beachgirl 2 Posted May 7, 2007 I was on 400 calories a day for 14 days and didn't loose an ounce. Up it to 1000 calories and lost 3 pounds the first 3 days. I guess it is just different for everyone.
