Loose bowel movements?

Recommended Posts

Hi! I am 17 days post op from DS. I am having nothing but diarrhea at least 3-5 times per day. I am not eating anything fatty at all. I am using skim plus in my shakes. Could I suddenly be lactose intolerant? Help:(

That is totally possible, although for DSers whole milk is better. Try at least 2% Lactaid Milk, it will help if intolerance is your issue. Also you can get Fiber capsules, open them up and sprinkle it in with your shake, you won't taste it but it will help to solidify stuff.

Do not switch to Almond or Soy milk, neither have the fat content that your body so desperately needs and have way too many carbs that will stall your weight loss.

Thanks!! My nutritionist said to do skim plus. I will ask her about that on Monday. Ok. I will try the 2% lactaid. Hopefully it will work

If you can find whole milk Lactaid that is ideal... if your nutritionist told you to use Skim Milk, please remind her that you only absorb 20% of the Fat that you eat, and whole fats are essential to Vitamin absorption as well as skin condition and healing.

Butter, cheese, Bacon, Whole Milk.... FAT is a DSers best friend. High Protein, High Fat, Low Carb.

I was told low fat everything. I tend to look more at calories, but whatever works for you. RD's are in dispute over this one. And I am a sleever--could be a difference based on WLS?

As far as lactose intolerance, it could be the culprit. Some people develop it post-op. Lactaid should help, if that is the case. As a lactose sensitive person, I get a lot of cramping with loose stools if I have too much dairy. I also have Celiac, which has the same symptoms. If this doesn't clear up with dairy changes, you can get a pretty simple blood test to check for Celiac, and an upper-endoscopy if the bloodwork shows an issue.

Good luck. Hope this resolves soon!

Duodenal Switcher's malabsorb Fat by 80%! Fat Free will kill us. It's the ONLY weight loss surgery that has this issue. This is a hard fact to swallow for even those that have had the surgery. It's tough to walk into a store and pick up real butter and whole milk. I can't even tell you the last time I even considered buying either prior to surgery.

There are many alternatives for Protein. powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury is one they make a flavorless powder that you can add to any liquids, so like broth or Soups or whatever.

At 17 days post op carbs should not be on the menu, or very limited and slathered in Fat. IMO Celiac is unlikely to be the culprit as a new symptom.

I think the milk was my problem. The lactaid has really reduced the diarrhea. My nutritionist doesn't want me to start fatty things right away. I need to gradually introduce them into my diet. I should be having 3 servings of fat per day (butter, Salad Dressing, cream cheese, etc). Does this sound about right?

I try to maximize the Protein/Fat that I'm eating. You'll feel more satisfied with more fat in your diet. And since you are barely absorbing it I say load it up. It will help everything move through your new system. The worse thing that will happen is your stool will be a little oily. But I didn't find that to be terrible.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
