Getting Band on 8/5. Any tips on what to bring?

Recommended Posts

I am being banded this Tues 8/5. I will have about a 90 mile trip home. I'm bringing a pillow for the ride back. Does anyone have any tips on what to bring or not bring? And any advice on what to do or not do?

Thanks for the help!

Hi! I had my surgery back in March. I read on the forums all the things to bring. You can read about my prep items in my blog: http://banderland.weebly.com/my-lap-band-journey/surgery-is-tomorrow

There is a bit of a wait before surgery, so I biggest suggestion is to bring something to occupy your time. I mostly played candy Crush on my phone.

Congratulations and good luck!

PS- I'm 152 days post op and would do it all over again in a heartbeat!

wear a loose comfortable sun dress. bring a sports water bottle so you can have ice Water for your trip home as well as in the hospital. wear sunglasses for your trip. I dunno why but I got a headache on my trip home which was a 2 hour trip. good luck

kayzoog I'll ck out your blog. Never thought about bringing a book to occupy time. terrydumont46 wearing sunglasses will help on a long trip. Good ideas...thanks. Good luck to you both on your weight loss journey.

Hey there, congratulations on your surgery date! I was banded in November and I am SO HAPPY. The walking post-surgery is so important -- I was glad I had flip-flops to slip on when I felt like I needed to pee (often, but that's me). Then I'd take the IV pole up and down the hallway and then back to bed for a nap. Repeat cycle but longer walk -- you get the idea! I brought stuff I didn't need. I liked having my own pillow not just in the car but in my room. I used the hospital robe, not the one I brought, I liked having my iPad but I didn't write in the journal I brought or read my book, etc. But nice to have all options! I am a tea drinker and brought my own teabags.

A BIG bottle of Water, chapstick, lifesavers, tooth paste and tooth brush. It took me a full day to get rid of the cottonmouth. Flip flops, 2 pillows for the car ride home. A magizine with cute clothes so you can see what you 'll be wearing soon , in smaller sizes. Good luck !!!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
