Recommended Posts

I having having problems with clumps of Protein Powder when making my shakes when using Syntrax Nectars. Does anyone have any tips to avoid or minimize the clumps? I'm not having this problem with powders? utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury so Im not sure if it is brand specific.

I had clumps for the first few months until my chemist wife figured it out. Use room temperature Water first. Use about 2/3rd the recommended amount. shake it with the Blender Bottle. Make sure you use the whisk they come with. Shake shake shake. Then include the ice to make it cold. You should end up with the recommended amount of water once the ice melts a bit.

I had the same problem with the nectar using the blender bottle...I moved to the Magic Bullet and didn't have the problem any more.

I have been using cold Water and a blender ball so I will try all your suggestions. Thanks!

I put my liquid in the microwave for about 1/2 minute, just to get the chill off, then whisk it in a mixing bowl. Then...I pour it into my shaker bottle (that has that little wire mixy thing in it) through a strainer. Then I put ice in it to get it cold again. Then I wash up the bowl and whisk right away because whey Protein dries like cement. I was a hospital, hotel, and industrial housekeeping manager for 35 years, and the most important thing I learned was the first rule of custodial science......."Get It Before It Dries!"

I bought the magic bullet but it circulated to much air that wound up in stomach limiting what I could consume. It was undrinkable if I added any milk. Most of the time the froth would not dissipate no matter how long I let it sit. And once you put ice in, the froth is locked in.

I tried just ice and Water first then adding the Protein powder but the crushed ice melted to quickly defeating the purpose.

The immersion blender was better but still created too much froth.

To help with the froth and bubbles I wonder if you can put a drop of mylicon gas drops to make them dissipate. I used to do that after shaking up formula in the bottle for my kids.

I had this problem also. I bought a Ninja (the $49 one) & I use light soy milk to mix the powder in. I can't stand the Water. I only "pulse" the mixture or else I get lots of froth. This has cured it for me. After you mix the water & powder try pouring it thru a strainer. This should eliminate the lumps. Then press the lumps thru the strainer so you get all the Protein powder. Syntrax Nectar & Unjury are my favorite powders. I saw a lot of good advice for this issue & I learned something also. Thanks for asking this question.

When I do make my own shake, I also pulse my blender once or twice or else it gets too bubbly. Most of the time I buy a premade. I just can't tolerate home made ones anymore. And I am not willing to go to the store and spend $30 on a container of one powder only to find out I hate it.

My Huns uses the powder in his smoothies so if I don't drink it it's not wasted...:) thank goodness!

I contacted Syntrax and here is there reply. I tried and no clumps.

Try using slightly cool Water such as tap water and you can also add ice after the mixing is complete if you desire. Our Protein powders are designed to be mixed by rapid stirring with a spoon for 15 to 20 seconds.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
