I am 28 y/o & from Peoria, IL. I'm married with 3 beautiful daughters and am a RN in the NICU in my area. My surgeon was Dr. Stephen Marshall. I had my surgery on Wednesday and came home today. I am moving well just sore and tired. Hoping to get guidance along the way and get ideas from others on staying on track and staying positive on hard days! I don't like depending on my husband for nearly everything right now so I am looking forward to recovering and getting into a routine!

Hi. Glad your surgery went well. I am not near as young as you, but I am a retired RN. I live in Lexington, KY. Were you RNY or Sleeve? Would love to hear more about your hospital experience. I have my first apt on 8/7 with the surgeon. Just ready to get this party started! I will send you a friend request.

I was RNY. My hospital experience was great. I came home post op day 2 as I was walking and moving around on my own. I am day 4 post op and am feeling better everyday! Most of my pain is on the left side of my abdomen. I start my full liquid diet today so I am hoping to get some energy from that as I am very tired! So far I have been very lucky I have had no complications. I felt nauseated right after surgery in recovery and they gave me meds for that and I haven't been nauseated or sick since then. It was kind of painful switching from my fentanyl PCa pain pump to liquid medication (lortab) but the lortab lasts much longer than the Fentanyl so that is nice. Let me know if you have any questions!

The tiredness is completely normal. Mine lasted well over 2 months. I am just over 3 months post op now and finally feel like my energy levels are back to normal. I had a really hard time with the tiredness especially while trying to keep up with my 8 and 6 year olds. There have been some pretty tough days along the way but they are few and far between now. So, try to remember that it does get easier... Best wishes!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
