You'll know, but unfortunately, only afterwards. For me, it usually happens 5 or 10 minutes after I'm done eating. I get nauseous and feel like I need to throw up. I never do, only saliva comes out (sorry if I'm being gross). It's the worst feeling in the world, but it does teach me to not overeat. After a while, you will know what portion size you can tolerate. Eating slow is a pain, and I still struggle with it. I usually eat half my plate, leave it and do something else for 5 or 10 minutes, then heat up my plate again and eat a little more. I just can't sit at the table for 25 minutes, it drives me nuts.

I agree with Shelly, if I don't stretch my meal out to 1/2 hour it will come back up up. I have always been a fast eater and it's hard for me to remember to eat slowly. You will definitely know because you will feel it start to come up so just take it slow and try taking a break every ten minutes or so.

Bloating, Pain, extreme discomfort, vomiting. Don't worry...you'll know! Fortunately I only got to the the first 3 before I learned my lesson.

Eat slowly, and chew thoroughly....this will give you time to figure out if the next mouthful is really needed. Plus, I have various signs of hitting that magic wall (which by the way if I hit...it will all come up for me at least). My signs, hiccups, my sleeve makes these weird sounds like an internal growly little monster that you can't make be quiet no matter what, then if it gets to the point of pressure in my chest....done! Starts salivating heavily, don't feel so good and need to get to washroom quick like. I am three months out and thank goodness have not had one of these episodes since the end of June. Hopefully, I've got my sensations understood. We are all different though, so you'll need to experiment. Believe me, you'll figure it out pretty quick :)

FYI, this can be the difference of one or two mouthfuls too

I'm wondering the same thing vsjourney. I'm 7 weeks out and don't have any of those signs. In the first few weeks there wasn't any real foods - so I was just plain full and sipping Water (after my 30 mins). Now at 7 weeks I feel like I'm already able to eat more than I should. There aren't any signals to tell me I'm overeating. Granted I have a FULL feeling after eating. But nothing that told me to stop - just that I portioned my meals out and I should stop here.

(that worries me a tad)

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
