Hi all, I just had my lap band done yesterday. When will the pain begin to subside?

I think a lot of it depends on your situation. Some people go back to work after 3 or 4 days. I had a hiatal hernia repair at the same time and a lot of gas pain in my sternum. I went back to work after a week and a half and by two weeks I felt normal again with no problems. But by the 4th day most of the pain had subsided. Ice packs and heating pads were wonderful

Day 3 was the worst for me because of the gas pains in my shoulder and feeling out of breath..I suggest a heating pad for the shoulder and ice packs for your belly..After a few days you can alternate. At about a week you should start to feel much better and have some energy return. Walk some every hour to ease the gas. Other than that rest as much as you can. Take it easy, your body has just been through something traumatic! It takes weeks to heal but you should feel real soon! Praying for a speedy recovery. Congratulations on your surgery. We are all here to support you if you have questions.

Exercise helps. I started a walking regimen the day after surgery. I was sore at my port but returned to work Monday after a Thursday outpatient surgery. The gas pains took four or five days to subside. Karate chops on the shoulder blades helped. Enlist someone to do that for you. Good luck.

As stated, it will start getting better by day 3 and you'll be pretty much reaching normal at about 1 week. I had hiatal hernia repair, plication and banding and went back to work after 3 days. That wasn't the smartest thing I've ever done, but it worked out.

The pain isn't as bad as the change in your sleep patterns. Last night I was awake every hour on the hour NEEEDING to sip on a Protein Shake. Yes, it hurts, but I'm told that by a week post-op we'll feel much better.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
