Nothing tastes right

Recommended Posts

The past few days, maybe even ever since I got out of the hospital, nothing tastes right. I haven't been able to drink plain Water since the surgery, I have to add Crystal Lite. None of my flavors taste good. The Protein Drinks don't even taste right where they did before and after my surgery.

I am not getting in my Fluid or Protein by any means.

I got out yesterday and drove to my friends house and visited and everything felt fine but at the end of the day I was worn slam out. Today has been no different. Worn out all day and even my vision has been blurred all day.

What gives with this? Does anyone know?

Oh, my pain has lessened a lot, so that is a good thing....

Hey pik.....I am a little over 3weeks out and my taste buds have changed completely. My usual crystal light does not taste the same. I've just tried a scrambled egg today [which is my favorite] and I could not eat any of it. The smell and taste was something I could not eat. I am able to get down some Protein but not much of anything else. Water is so important in this journey. Try some sugar free popcicles to get your water, or even Jello.< /p>

After my surgery everything tasted 'not quite right'. I'd crave something, make it, take a bite, and toss it out. It lasted about a month or so. It's actually helpful, sort of like aversion therapy. :-)

I'm fourteen months out and still don't 'crave' my old foods. :-)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
