I'm 7 weeks out and haven't had any food problems at all (except for two little episodes with dry chicken popping right back up). But, for the past 3-4 days, I just haven't wanted to eat anything because nothing sits right. Everything I eat just kind of feels 'heavy' or 'yuck' in my stomach. I haven't been sick but it's like the stage just before that.

Anybody else have this suddenly pop up after no problems? I'm not getting enough Protein because I just don't feel like eating. I'll call my surgeon if it keeps up but I'd like to know if other people have had something like this.

I am 4 months out with RNY and still struggle a lot with food. They have to be moist or I can't eat. chicken has been very hard for me unless it's super moist and soft and shredded. Steak I can sometimes tolerate it if it's tender and if it's not, forget about it. And with eggs I get the egg beaters and they work but regular eggs are hard at times. Beans are my fav....I make chili and eat that often. Don't worry you are not alone. It gets better in time.

What's weird about this though is that it just started a couple of days ago. I've eaten chicken, fish, beef (had a beautiful filet mignon steak that was incredible) and other things with no problem. Now it just seems everything makes me feel icky. It's a beautiful summer -- not too hot -- so I don't think it's from heat or anything. And I can't think of anything I'm doing different, so I'm baffled.

I've eaten Peanut Butter with no problem but I had my first dumping experience after eating some peanut butter this morning. And dumping is NOT fun... I know that now.

If you are not tolerating foods that you had been able to tolerate before - going backwards - it could be the beginnings of a stricture. I would recommend that you call your clinic - especially if this has been going on for 3 -4 days now.

Let us know how you are doing.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
