Just wondering are these okay to eat for a snack

With me, it all depended on how far I was post-surgery. Up till around 9 months post-op, I was so calorie restricted that I had to get as much nutrition per bite as I could get. And I couldn't hold more than about 1/2 cup of food per meal, so I was very limited on the "goodies" :-P. I would allow myself a tablespoon of Peanut Butter per day. But if it were a cookie or cake or anything with empty calories, I'd only eat 1 or 2 bites after I'd eaten my normal meals.

What about the carbs? I don't know if it would be worth it.

Sugar or no, they are still loaded with carbs, calories and almost no Protein, so this soon after surgery, I'd look for more nutritious Snacks. Your choices should be all about the fluids and protein at this point. Too soon to start back with bad habits.

Back then I snacked on cheese, guacamole, edamame, deli meat, plain Greek yogurt flavored with Protein powder or a little puréed fruit, Popsicles I make from freezing my favorite Protein Drink flavors, 1/2 Protein Bar (GNC Lean Bars come in many flavors and have the texture of a rice crispy treat), kale chips, and apple slices with PB2. I still eat all those things, but have added mixed nuts, seasoned pumpkin seeds, toasted soy Beans and beef Jerky once I was OK'd for crunchier, denser foods.

For me, it was a matter of redefining what a snack was....it doesn't have to be about carbs or something sweet.

I started with peaches, pears, mangos and bananas because they were soft and had no seeds. I didn't eat the fruit alone, I always added it to something that was high in Protein.....besides Greek yogurt or even blended with my Protein shake, I also love peaches and cottage cheese. Around 3 months out I was allowed seeds, so I added berries and more fibrous fruit.

Since passing goal, I have added more carbs to my diet in the form of whole grains and fruits. My newest favorite snack is frozen pineapple, cantaloupe and watermelon cubes...very refreshing summertime treat. But I wouldn't recommend too many of them while you are still trying to lose.

Thanks so much all of your tips are so useful....also I heard of a bread that's not really bread at trader Joes. That's made of grains and oats that I eventually want to try have you heard of that

I haven't heard of that particular one, but I do know there are lots of "Protein breads" out there. But again, there's always way more carbs than Protein in anything like that. It's the nature of the beast...baked goods, bread, Pasta and grains will ALWAYS be carb heavy, no matter what they do to try and sell it as a protein or low carb product.

Believe me, I don't eat perfect 100% of the time, but I sure did for the first 4-5 months. Since then I have had ice cream, tiramisu, cheesecake, strawberry shortcake, blueberry muffins, alcohol, crackers, noodles, etc. But not until I was at (or darned close to) goal weight. I don't plan on dieting the rest of my life, so I'm OK with eating these things in moderation since I'm technically in the maintenance stage. But 90% of the time it's still protein first, then veggies, fruit and whole grains/fiber.

        Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

        Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

      Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

      Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

        Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
