fezik23 240 Posted July 30, 2014 I Was told not to drink until a half hour after eating. But after a half hour there is no way my stomach would be ready for liquids. I assume it's just taking a long time to empty now that I'm on soft foods. Or it could be that I'm eating too fast, which is something I struggle with and I'm trying to work on. I'm just wondering if anyone else has noticed this. Today I had some Breakfast and took my water bottle with me, intending to drink on my way to work. I have a 50 minute drive and there was no way I could drink anything, in spite of the fact that I was really thirsty.
mi75 1,235 Posted July 30, 2014 it is likely taking your sleeve a while to empty which is GOOD because you'll feel full longer! it will take a while for the inflammation to go down and the tissue to relax. at 5 wk post op, i can generally drink 30-45 minutes after i eat depending on what i eat. no worries, sounds like you are ok. as long as you are able to drink at some point and getting your fluids! It's the inflammation, I assume you had surgery recently and this is 100% normal! Most people struggle for weeks if not months to get in all the Protein and Water requirements that they need. The 30 minutes timeline is more of a minimum and you will find with time that it is easier to drink within 30 minutes of eating. It's a great habit to get into if you can push off drinking 30-45 minutes after eating and will help your weight loss success greatly in your future Good luck and don't fret! LipstickLady 25,682 Posted July 31, 2014 I am 14 months out and still struggle with drinking after eating. It used to be an hour plus before I could drink and I hated it. I found that I was eating a bite or two too many and when I cut my portion size a bit, I could drink about 30 minutes after. That still stands for me. McButterpants 2,846 Posted July 31, 2014 I agree with Lipstick...it also depends on what I eat. I'm 9 months out - if I eat an egg and a turkey sausage patty for breakfast, I can't drink anything for about 45 minutes or an hour. If I eat something like deli meat I force myself to wait the 30 minutes.
ChaoticBliss 113 Posted July 31, 2014 It is very circumstantial for me. I find I can drink almost all the time, even during meals, though I abstain due to the nutritional and digestive time necessary after eating. I can drink all the way up to time to eat, but on some occasions depending on what I eat, I do have to wait to drink. I am a year out, I can eat or drink anything, without issue.
