Disney vacation how long after surgery?

Recommended Posts

Good evening everyone! We are planning our first family trip to Disney World this fall or winter. We have never been there and we are planning to be gone for 10 days. I am going to have my procedure in mid to late September and I am pretty certain I am going to do the RNY. My question is how long after surgery should I wait for our trip? Would late November or early December be pushing it? February is also another option. How long is sufficient to allow for me to be back to a somewhat normal energy level and feeling more comfortable with my new eating requirements? I know everyone is different, but I am looking for an estimate or average when most people would feel up to it. Trip insurance will also be purchased just in case something happens and I am unable to travel. Another option is doing 5 nights at Disney and the rest playing on the beach for some family R&R to recover from the Disney experience before heading home. Thanks for your advice and sharing your knowledge!

If it was me I would wait until February when you are on regular foods and can have an easier time selecting food on menus.

You will by then have four plus months under your belt and will feel much more secure in what to eat and what not to eat. By then you will know the plan much better that the surgeon and nutritionist lay out for you.

Now should you spend 10 days in Disney or 5 days there and 5 days on the beach is a good question. If you rent a place and stay on the beach you can have more control of what you eat because you probably will have a frig in your room and can purchase food to keep in there for yourself and your family and save some money by not having to go out.

I would take Protein powder in small containers to mix with Water and if you can get fat free milk even better. I would take Protein Bars like Quest Bars that have 20 grams of Protein in them. Have these items while your walking around Disney just in case you can't find food that's on a menu that goes with the program that you are given.

These are a few suggestions for you and I hope they help you decide what to do.

Take care and good luck with your surgery.

I have to agree with Chelly. I would wait until Feb. I frequent the Disney parks a lot and I'll be honest, there's not a ton of foods that I could eat as my pouch is pretty sensitive (even at 9 months out) and the food is usually on a line, drying out from the lights, microwave action. Also, when my husband and I stay on grounds, they have pretty constant transportation, so stocking your fridge in your room will give you the food you can e at and a nice little breather from the park, then when you're done, hop back on the bus, boat or monorail and go back to the parks! Either way, have fun!

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
