DivaTheSleeva 8 Posted July 30, 2014 I'm still in the puréed stage of my diet as I am one week post op. is it ok for us to have sugar free ice cream. My hubby bought it for me with some sugar free caramel, is this something I should avoid?
hollyr 49 Posted July 30, 2014 Personally, I would not eat it, especially so early on. It really has no nutritional value.
JamieLogical 8,710 Posted July 30, 2014 I haven't had my surgery yet, but I've done a lot of research and my only hesitation about ice cream would be not getting enough Protein. If you are still in the puree stage, then you are probably still not eating much at all and you need to be sure that what you are eating is giving you all the protein you need. If you are getting all your protein and still have "room" for ice cream, I guess it would be okay.
Kindle 8,667 Posted July 30, 2014 At 7 months out, I have had ice cream 3 times (and the REAL stuff, not the SF/low fat crap). But my advice for you is to maybe not indulge quite so soon postop. Yes, you CAN eat it, but SHOULD you eat it? You really want to take advantage of the early weeks and months to establish new eating habits. Protein and good nutrition should be your #1 goal. I've never been a counter or tracker, but I do read labels and make good choices based on what I find. I'd be willing to bet the SF ice cream still has a lot of calories with very little protein (or anything else remotely nutritious)
