Hi it's good to hear you are doing great and 12 lbs is impressive! After reading other people's comments the first couple of weeks is the hardest. Each day always gets better. Hang in there!

I am meeting with Anna the Nut( hehe) and Dr. Lauretti. I made my first initial appt was July7. I have seen Janet Huels twice, Anna tomorrow will the second time and Lauretti the first. When do you think surgery will happen with this time frame? I need to squeeze in my knee replacement before next Spring. I have been on extended short term from work and then going on long term. So I am pressed for time and anxious to know when this thing is going to happen. I have Harvard Pilgrim and there is no 6 month requirement.

Ok I am still learning how to navigate this huge forum.

It's really informative to see everyone's concerns and fun to read ????

I can't say how long the process is. It varies person to person. Depends on how much effort you put into it. If they feel you aren't ready they will keep you seeing the nut until you are ready. My suggestion is to be honest with them and make some life changes. You don't need to lose tons of weight but you can't have a net gain prior to surgery. I would talk to them and explain your time line and see what they say. You'll get a better idea coming from them.

Good luck. Keep me posted.

Hello, I am back...I was longing to get on here to write and read people's comments. My appts. went well and feel better knowing that I am going forward.

The appt. with Lauretti went well, she cleared me for surgery. I don't have to go back to her.

Anna however knows I have to do better trying to lose some weight so I will be going to the life skills classes in Oct. 6 and the 30th...on the 30th after class I will see Anna one more time. I need to work on my will power! Then I get to see the surgeion :)

So How are you feeling? I have you gone onto the shakes and thicker foods? I bet it gets better with time! Are you cooking for your family if so how is that? I think that will be challenging but I already told my daughter that she and her father are going to have to cook for themselves until I can eat real food...Well I was thinking of you and hoping you are on the mend.

Hang in there! Lisa

I may end up switching to Wareham. I went to a seminar in town, and since BID in Boston has put me on a 6 month therapy requirement (which kind of puzzles my therapist, since he doesn't see a reason I need it), I'm hoping to move it along a little quicker at a more local hospital.

Hi All,

I had my RNY at St. Elizabeth's and just found this section of the web site.

I had started the program at BID but they also tried to put me on a 6 month program with a therapist for some odd reason so I switched to St E's and didn't have to do that. I discovered that if you say certain words or phrases, they consider you not ready psychologically. At St. E's when I met with the Psychologist, I changed how I phrases things (but was still honest with them) and that made all the difference!!

Anyway, I'm almost a year out and feel great though still have more to lose. But thrilled that I did this.

I'm also south of Boston in Hyde Park.

I switched to SouthCoast in Wareham after BID did that to me. Unfortunately, I don't think that I've moved along things any more quickly, since I've had insurance issues in the meantime. However, I WAS able to give up the counseling that BID insisted I have. Even the counselor, after 6 visits, kept saying, "I wish I knew why they said you need counseling. What shall we talk about today?".

Yep, it's probably a word or phase you used when you met with the social worker or nurse. Trust me. You need to only tell them you are doing this for your health, no other reason, and that you don't know what a goal weight would be. I apparently gave them too low of a number and made a comment about someday wanting to fit into a pair of jeans. I didn't stress that I was doing it for health and that freaked them out. But, I assumed that was a given which is why I hadn't mentioned it. I like how organized BID is but didn't like that part of the program.

Hi All... I live in Winthrop, little town seven miles north of Boston. I had Sleeve surgery in May 2012, and had a revision to RNY in March 2014, because of severe reflux. I did not need to lose more than 15 pounds with the revision.

I had both surgeries at MA General, and the awesome Dr. Meireles. I went from a size 26 to a size 8 . I've definately had some bumps along the way, would I do sleeve again...in a heartbeat...would I do RNY again, probably not.

Good luck with your WLS. Just remember to follow your doctor's rules. I have the band, BID in Boston, and every doctor has their rules. I don't know much about the sleeve except that you need your Vitamins and minerals. All WLS people do.

I grew up in Brighton and know St. E's very well. Great place.

I now live in Randolph.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
