Saving Your Life

Recommended Posts

I read an article last night that really kind of shocked me back into reality. I may just have saved my life by taking this weight loss journey.

scale and how you look in skinny jeans is really what I think about the majority of the time I am losing weight.....or trying to lose weight.

BUT....the reality is that I could very well have saved my life, or in the very least, added some years on. Years to be with my kiddos, take trips, see them graduate, get married if they choose, have kids of their own if they choose, and grow into who they were always meant to be. Years to continue to learn who I am.

What a gift we are giving ourselves by going on this journey!

I 100% agree.

My 37 yr old husband had a massive heart attack on feb 6th and a triple bypass on feb 14th.

2 days before I was told I had an abnormal EKG.

My father had a heart attack at 50 followed with 5 stents and than a quadruple bypass.

Watching my husband go through this and going though it myself was absolutely devastating. I'm 33. We've only been married 2 years just 3 weeks ago.

The fact that I started this journey in January and continued to go forward is all thanks to my cardiologist. The day before his open heart surgery, my cardiologist Said if I do not continue forward with this procedure I will be following in my husband and my fathers footsteps. THAT was extremely upsetting to hear.

I was denied by insurance but I am appealing and I'm going to fight to save my life :)

Thanks for posting!!

Walter Lindstrom has interesting information on appeals-- that the strength of your appeal is greater if you

appeal, rather than your surgeons's staff.

Thank you!! My surgeons office sent a medically necessary letter to them. But I am appealing alone. It is scary. I keep sending it back and forth with my sister to help me. So much has happened in my life the past 6 months- not to mention quitting smoking during that difficult time. I had planned on quitting anyway but his heart attack and triple bypass made it a tad easier since we BOTH now quit together. Aug 6th will be 7 months smoke free for both of us!! Woohoo!Thank u for the info beagle!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
