I'm on the pre op diet and my brain believes I am starving. I really am not - my calorie intake is close to 1000 calories a day (my doc recommends 2-3 shakes - depending on hunger- and one "lean and green" meal). But WHY, oh WHY does EVERY commercial have to be about food? ??

Anyone else notice this? It's annoying! :)

I know what you mean. Not only did I notice all the food commercials, as a guy I keep noticing all the "male enhancement" commercials as well - not that I'm on a pre-op diet for that!!!!! :-P

The commercials are horrid! I swear every commercial shows vibrant juicy food. Just remember the food isn't really what it is made out to be. How many times did you go get that mouth watering burger and it turned out dry or just mediocre? Just think of the end result and the pain that eating all the food has caused (obesity).

You can take solace in knowing that most food in commercials is all fake. I used to work in advertising. One of clients was McDonald's. We had a food stylist who worked for us for all of the print shoots. Even food in the commercials was fake if it was not being eaten!

The end of day 5 of 7 pre-op, I have noticed the number of coupons for my favorite restaurants have increase by 100% that come to my email inbox. They tell me to "come on down and enjoy a free appetizer on us. " I can't eat but I can dream. One day, I will be able to smell my favorite appetizer. Until then I will just dream!

Glad I wasn't the only one that noticed all the food commercials. They never had an impact on me before but with the restricted pre-op diet they woo me like a sirens song.

I noticed this about 1 week in on preop diet. Ive been on 1000 calories for 3 weeks. Ughhhh. Very challenging. There is food commercials every 5 minutes. Driving we are bombarded by billboards and signs. And even gas stations have come in and eat signs. No wonder why we gain weight. My hardest thing is having a food family. They are always eating. Most do not have weight problems. I have lost alot of social time with friends and family trying to stay away and not be in tempted. Its lonely feeling im in this by myself. Support groups only once a month. Wish it was once a week to feel connected to people who understand. This site is great to help

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
