Hi there my name is Nate, I'm 17 years old and weigh about 394 pounds at 6'1 I've started to bariatric journey a little more then a year ago, I was scheduled to have the sleeve back in May of 2013 but I got to my two week diet and chickened out, worse decision ever.. I've gained 70 pounds since then but now I am back on track and I am having my surgery in October of this year! I'm soooo excited and pumped and just ready for a new life! I have some questions for you guys..

-What was one thing that REALLY got you through the liquids stage?

-What was the worst part coming right out of surgery?

-I'm currently a 3x shirt and a 46 size pants what can I expect?

-Will I have a lot of loose skin?

So there you go! Those are all I can think of at the moment! But I'm going to attach a picture of myself so everyone can see me.

Hi Nate, big decision. I just got sleeved June 24 th. It is definitely going to work if you follow the guidelines. It is a slow but sure way to take off weight. I lost 14 pounds before surgery and 17 pds in the past 5 weeks. I had 9 days where I didn't lose anything, but a stall is pretty normal. It will definitely train you to view food as fuel. You have to make careful food choices so you don't damage your sleeve for about 6-8 weeks. I started walking in my 3 week post op. I am up to 2 miles a day now. You are a man and young, you will lose faster than me! But everything I read on this site says exercise is the key to health weight loss. You will have your struggles like everyone but will achieve your goal in the end. Good luck to you.

Good luck.

I did not have too much of a problem with the liquid stage. Although, I was anxious to get to the soft food stage mainly because I miss chilling. But sugarfree Popsicles only help with that. I'm not a man so I can't tell you have you're going to change as you lose weight but I would assume that because you are a man and you have all that testosterone that will help you lose weight faster than women do. And everybody is different and your body will react differently losing weight before when I've lost weight I didn't have sagging skin but now I'm older and 44 and I'm noticing it in strange places that I never noticed it before. Good luck again. God bless

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
