Surgeon gave me my 1st goal 1mo post op

Recommended Posts

Went for my month follow up and my Dr. gave me a goal of 50 more pounds to lose in 2 months. Is this achievable? Its just so hard to imagine! I'm just getting used to being 30lbs down! Any suggestions on how to achieve/handle this new goal?

50 more or 50 total??

I think the latter is totally doable

I think your surgeon is crazy. If I read your post correctly he wants ANOTHER 50 pounds on top of the 30 you've already lost. That's almost 6 pounds per week and that's just not healthy....physically or mentally. What happens if you don't lose that much....he's just setting you up to feel bad if you don't. He should be more focused on making sure you are making healthy food choices and exercising. If you do that, the weight will come off at your body's own rate. Someone needs to explain to him that this is not a race. I think it's poor medical advice to give and expect timed goals.

I say f.... k his goal, just concentrate on getting in all your Protein and fluids and being physically active. Start adding in non-starchy veggies as you are allowed, and take your Vitamins. All basic rules at your stage. And don't worry what the numbers on the scale say.

Yes! Just keep doing what you're doing and follow the program. You've already lost 30# in 1 month you can do another 50 in 2 months no problem! Good luck you got this!!!!

50# in 2 months I think is stupid & unhealthy. At my 6 week checkup my doctor wanted me to loose 15# by the time I see her next week. I will be 12 weeks post op by then. Right now at 11 weeks I'm down 43#. I'm happy with that. Losing weight with the Sleeve is slower than the Band or Bypass. Good luck with your journey.

I trust & respect my surgeon and know he cares 100%. When he gave me the goal I asked him how to achieve it and e said to keep doing what I am doing follow the plan, take my Vitamins, drink my Water, and watch the carbs. I intend to do just that. I am having issues with realizing I will be able to lose the weight. I've not lost more than 22lbs on any former weight loss attempts. Wow...can I really do this!?! Thanks for everyone's input they are why I like this site!

@@Jewells70, that goal is crazy with a capitol C, but if that is what's required - go for it. You say that you've never lost more than 22lbs on a diet previously......well, if you're like most of us there's a history of yo-yo dieting. The diets usually aren't the problem, it's us, because we actually stop doing it. Thirty pounds gone is GREAT and I fully believe that if you simply don't stop this time, you'll meet your goals. Start increasing your exercises, even if it's just walking. Put on ankle weight or wear a weighted vest and walk longer distances. You can do it!!

Since you asked, I'll give my thoughts. I think it's achievable but I don't think it's mentally healthy. I lost that much but I barely ate and exercised like a nut. I felt guilty when I ate. When I went back, my surgeon was concerned. (I did this on my own, not their advice) I saw people dropping pounds daily on boards and I think I got a little wacky. That's why I ignore people's losses and read experiences.

That said, if you have a high BMI, my surgeon said my loss would be good b/c higher BMIs lose quicker. They did not like it on me b/c it was not fitting for my body.

I will do my best and follow the plan. I'll strive to achieve my goal and be happy with any weight loss. I am ready to "eat to live" and stop "living to eat!"

Thanks for your support BariatricPals!

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
