Restarted the Pill, developed hypertension...anyone else?

Recommended Posts

today i called my OB office to make sure i could restart my birth control pill. 5 wks post surgery, first spontaneous period started...

the NP said it would be ok, and asked me to watch my blood pressure. i had hypertension for the past MANY years but was allowed to continue the pill because i took multiple blood pressure pills.< /p>

now tonight i got home, sat down to relax and took my BP and it is high! i've had very VERY normal BP since surgery. i'm really hoping this is NOT a side effect, which it can be.

i usually take my BP in the AM and it has been very normal, but now i'm also back to work. not overly doing it, though either...i'm super frustrated. not taking another one until i call them again in the AM tomorrow and keeping a close eye on my BP.

did anybody else have hypertension related to taking the pill?

Not at all. Maybe it's just too much at once? Going back to work starting meds etc.

i'm hoping so! i have NEVER had hypertension related to the pill. pressure seems to have normalized this evening. i'm wondering if i was just over doing it this afternoon.

i will call my doc in the AM but i'm thinking they will just have me watch it for a couple days. it wasn't HUGELY high, but just higher than it's been...

If you're over 30 and have been using the pill for years, discuss getting another form of birth control with your practitioner.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
