Lisa H 0 Posted April 28, 2007 I have a question for those of you who've already been banded. What is the minimum amount of time I should plan to take off from work? I've been approved by my insurance, and I'm in the process of going through ten different pre-op tests that my doctor requires. Things are going well and I hope to be finished soon and ready to set a surgery date. Anyway, we are going on a cruise the first week of July, and I don't want to be liquids or mushies while I'm on the cruise. If I could have surgery on a Thursday, do you think I would be ready to go back to work on the following Tuesday? (I would be able to sit at a desk most of the day.) I know everyone is different, but I'd like to see how long the average person has to take off work.
edieparks 2 Posted April 28, 2007 I would have been able to go back to a desk job the following Monday after my Wed surgery. I did work a desk job for 17 years (hated it). I have been a pet groomer for 8 years now. edie
mumof2boys 71 Posted April 28, 2007 Well...my surgery is in two days. I have been telling my employer that I will be off for one week. When I called the surgeon's office on Friday to make sure that everything was still a go, I asked..."By the way...how long am I going to be off from work". They told me two weeks and faxed a letter to my employer stating that. I think that I'm going to go back the following Monday though. Good luck! Tina
HelenC 0 Posted April 28, 2007 I thought I was just taking 6 days off, I ended up taking 11, and was glad I had them. I have a desk job, but lots of walking.

Paula78 0 Posted April 29, 2007 I think a good rule of thumb is a week or 5 business days. I started feeling better by the third day, but I still felt weak moving around for about a week. P.S. It proabably would have helped if my husband had read the label on the loritab right! I was getting about half the dose for the first two days. (TBSP= tablespoon , not a teaspoon!) Superali72 0 Posted April 29, 2007 I was banded on 4/19 and have taken 2 weeks off. I could have gone back this week, but I'm glad I have the extra days. Also, my doctor's nutrition plan is labor intensive, Protein every 2 hours, which is a lot of mixing. I would not have wanted to try and do that during my work day. I think it will be easier to go back on mushies.
