I understand that we are not supposed to drink 30 min before and after meals. I've seen the YouTube video that explains it. But is anyone having serious trouble not drinking DURING meals? I am really having a very hard time. How can you eat oatmeal without milk and not choke? Or enjoy a summer meal outside without getting over heated? Any ideas?

You may have already heard this, but my doc recommends having ice chips with you when you eat so that you aren't drinking, but you can still cleanse your palate. I admit it would be weird having ice chips with your morning oatmeal, but it might just help.

That Doc needs to go back to science class and study harder during the part about solids, liquids and gases........ <_<.

LOL, yes, both the doctor and I are well aware of the phases of H2O. I think the idea is that it gives you a bit of moisture without downing ounces of Water at a time.

I have major issues not drinking during meals. I find it almost impossible to not drink during a meal. But when I do drink during a meal, I find I can't eat as much and sometimes it even causes pain.

Nurse told me to just small sip if I needed to just takes me longer to eat! I still can only get 4 or 5 bites at one sitting....I eat about every 2 o 3 hrs...

Exactly. ..I have to not fix a drink most time...if I drink I can barely get a few bites in...

Never heard of the ice chips thing before! I'll try that next time I am outside and too hot. Good idea!

You won't thirst to death or overheat in the time it takes to eat a meal, promise. ;)

I miss drinking with my meal, but when I try, it's painful and highly likely I'll vomit. The health benefits of not drinking with my meals outweigh the habit that WWs ingrained in me and at 14 months out, I can tell you, it gets easier.

That's one habit that I haven't been able to break. I don't do the waiting before and after and occasionally have a few sips with my meal. Thankfully I have learned where my breaking point is and don't vomit anymore because I overfilled myself.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
