Ok so I have my surgery date of August 18th 2014, 2 week liquid diet starts on August 4th. Being that I will be forever changed after surgery plus starting a liquid diet, then my additional phases of food after surgery. I feel the need to indulge on some great foods for the last time ...in the capacity that I'm used too. Anyone feel the same way?? Also is it weird the nurse told me to gain some more pounds before my final weigh in this coming Wednesday?

Yes, it's weird the nurse told you to gain weight, especially since (as I recall) you're not low BMI.

Why do you think she said that?

Enjoy your food funeral. I'm over that stuff. Just read to get this show on the road.

Congratulations on your surgery date! That's my date too! Yes, we'll forever be changed! Although I haven't gone on extreme "mourning" food funeral times, I have indulged a bit more this past week because of the same reasoning. Also, my nurse had told me in the beginning to lose the weight, but not too much because insurance may have not approved it. I totally understand what you're going thru MzGee! I'm getting nervous about next Monday, so this week I will try to deal with my food funeral, one day at a time. Then I will try to leave one bite to tell it good bye and flush it down the sink with the garbage disposal running and I'll salute it! LOL I'm ready for this change! I'm 47 and my pain mgmt doc said I could be in a wheel chair in 5 to 10 years due to arthritis... I'm READY FOR THIS! We've GOT THIS!

Starting my 2 week pre-op diet tomorrow, so last weekend I held my food funerals. The weird thing was, I would be sooo looking forward to eating a particular favorite and then just a few bites into it, it just didn't taste that great anymore. Maybe I'm already changing?

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
