Hi,

I am thinking of getting the lap band procedure done in Mexico with Dr. Kuri. From all that I have read he sounds good but what I want to know if there is anyone out there who is a self pay for fills in New Jersey? He includes free fills but I was wondering how much it would cost and if there are doctors in NJ that will do fills on somebody else's band?

Thanks for your help

Michelle

Hey there,

I'm not from NJ, but I can tell you that I've called one Dr. here in California who is closer to me than driving to see Dr. Kuri and they want to charge $300 for fills. I believe I've heard other people talk about it costing up to $600. This is a directory of Weight Loss Surgery doctors that I found. http://www.usaweightlossdirectory.com/index1.html

You may want to call around and see if any of them will treat patients that they didn't do the surgery on, and what the cost would be. Some of them don't charge all that much for the fills themselves, but have a large fee for an 'initial consultation' or something similar. You just need to make sure you get all the details. Depending on the season, it may be cheaper to fly to San Diego to see Dr. Kuri!

Hi,

Thank-you so much for your help. I will use that site you gave me.

I also found a doctor here that said he would do other people patients as long as their doctor was not in the area and he will charge $200. So that sounds pretty good we will see if he means what he says.

Did you go to Dr. Kuri? What was your experience like? Are you happy with everything?

Thankyou for all your help.

Michelle

Actually my surgery was done by Dr. Rumbaut in Monterrey. I had my fill done by Dr. Kuri and he seems really nice. Everyone there who'd had their surgery done by him was really happy with him. When he walked in it was like they were all greating their hero. ;)

Hi this is from Inamed, great site to find a doc in your area

www.lap-band.com

click on the top ofthe page where it says surgeon locator. Find one in your area and call them before you go to Mexico and see if any of them wil ltake Mexican patients and how much they charge.

Aftercare is vital to have all lined up if you DO NOT plan on going back to Mexico for aftercare.

Good Luck to you!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
