cchapman6 6 Posted July 27, 2014 Hello, I just had my surgery July 23rd and I am only drinking Protein and crystal light. When can I start my puréed stage. When can I start adding oatmeal and baby food. And when can I start adding real food into my diet. My booklet is not really helpful. I am 4 days post op and already having normal food cravings. Crystalis 2 Posted July 27, 2014 Great question, I'm with you on that one! I was banded on the 24th, so I am a day behind you. I would love to hear what some others have to say. I've been on Water and Premier Protein shakes with the occasional Jello cup or sugar free Popsicle. I am not hungry at this point, but my tongue would like to detach itself from my mouth. I don't know if it's the shakes, or that my family members are having normal food. I would be happy with some cream of wheat or a scrambled egg just to change it up! mentalistfan 189 Posted July 27, 2014 Every surgeon has different rules...for me, puréed foods start at day 15 after surgery
VSGAnn2014 12,992 Posted July 27, 2014 (edited) My booklet says Stage One (full liquids) lasts 1-2 weeks. Then it says: "Do not advance diet until instructed to do so by the surgeon's office." What does yours say? Edited July 27, 2014 by VSGAnn2014
Chelly 364 Posted July 27, 2014 May I suggest you contact your surgeon or nutritionist and ask this question because each one of us is different on how we heal and how our surgeon or nutritionist want us to progress. I would not start anything without consulting with them. 1 VSGAnn2014 reacted to this
Beckyyb93 225 Posted July 28, 2014 We also don't know what surgery you had and recommendations can be different not only per doctor but per surgery and then of course greatly revolves around how you are healing individually.
Miss Mac 6,262 Posted July 28, 2014 Yes...details please. I am just gobsmacked at all of the doctors we hear about that leave their patients so unprepared over such an important issue. Please call your doctor for a clarification. That being said, I was sleeved last December. My post-op diet was fast tracked, I was released to start full liquids as soon as I got home on day three. I was allowed purees at 1 1/2 weeks, soft at 3 weeks, and whole foods at 4 1/2 weeks. Your doctor may not want you to proceed that quickly, so please check to get some peace of mind.
