I go for my last supervised weight on 8/08...then surgery will be scheduled....I've been eating everything I can get my hands on....I know that if I don't stop they wont do the surgery because I'll be showing that I am not committed to the program and I wont be successful...what do I do? how can I stop this?

Are you afraid of your pending surgery? Or is it the fear of success? Try and focus on one day at a time and start writing your feelings down. This helps a lot because you can see why your are depress , excited, sad, and even happy so many time our lives are surrounded by food rather it be a happy occasion, sad or just depression. Find out the source of your eating and stop it, perhaps you can speak with a therapist and if not please write your feelings down we are all here for you and want you to succeed . Good luck my friend and keep us posted on your progress.

You have to change your eating habits postop anyways, so it is a good test to see if you are willing to do that. If you aren't committed to change, then your surgeon is right to not move forward. Does your medical team have a therapist you can meet with? Maybe working with him/her could get you on track. I was self pay, so no therapist for me. But Cynthia Alexander's book "The Emotional First Aid Kit: A Practical Guide for Life After Bariatric Surgery" really helped me understand what to expect both pre and post op and to get my head in the right place. Being mentally ready is even more important for long term success than all the preop medical tests and insurance hoops you have to go through.

I am new to this site. I go for my last supervised weigh in on 08/07/14, so we have something in common. I was also required to do 3 months' supervised weight loss (BCBS Federal). However, my starting BMI was 39.7 and I have one co-morbidity - very high blood pressure over a three year period- so I didn't really try to lose a whole lot of weight, because I fear denial. Over two and a half months, I've seriously lost four pounds. From what I've been reading, these insurance companies are so fickle, and deny you for every little thing. I'm trying not to mess with my BMI. It's tricky to know what to do and what not to do. I'll be submitted for approval shortly after that time. But good luck to you.

I did that, too, until four week before my surgery. By then I felt like I was sick of overeating, I'd said goodbye to everything I wanted to, and I was ready to commit to preparing. I think it's a pretty normal phase to go through.

Thank you for all the responses ... my advocate told me I had to lose at least 10lbs before I go on my all liquid diet and I haven't lost that weight.,...in fear of not being qualified for the surgery but now I'm worried that they wont do the surgery because they don't think i'm committed ....I'm committed ... I'm so ready for this...I've read and read and researched ....I'm just worried

So, you are eating why? Is it emotional? If it is, the surgery isn't going to help, you have to do that part yourself, the surgery will only help control your portion size. You can do it, see yourself a year from now, think of the fun stuff you'll be able to do. But you have to do it for yourself, not an insurance company or rules made by someone else, that's temporary. Do it for you.

I don't know if this will help.....but, about 2 mths before surgery I started having a Protein shake for Breakfast and then only Water until lunch. After the first week I realized I felt sooo good! I felt better than I did when I started my day with a mug of coffee. So that stuck. Then I started eating healthier lunches. Then healthier Snacks. I became aware of what I was eating and it got a lot easier. So..I would suggest just starting small. The rest will fall in line once you start feeling in control of it. Good Luck!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
