Sendimg you hugs. I just got out Wednesday- I had a stricture. They'll do an endoscopy and then dilation to open it up. I had 4 days of vomiting before my surgeon opened the stricture. If thats what it is be sure to brush your teeth as you'll be vomiting bile. Hang in there.

I had a ct scan last night that showed a Fluid packet below my left lower lobe of my lung. A pulmonologist came in and is ordering a more localized scan of my lungs. I don't know if they are telling me everything at this point or not.

Tomorrow I have to have another upper gi. I am feeling so much better as compared to yesterday.

The surgeon I originally saw before the one that did my surgery. He is fine but I will say I am glad I chose the one that I did.

He seems more caring to me.

Thanks everyone for your thoughts and prayers.

Thanks. I am feeling a lot better and can go home sometime today. Saw my surgeon and my pulmonologist.

The pulmonologist still has some concern over the pocket of Fluid and wants me to have a follow up ct scan sometime soon.

The surgeon thinks it is from where my stomach was up in my chest and it just filled up with Fluid when they pulled it out....

I am glad to be feeling better......

Hey Pik,

Seems you and I have been fighting the same battle. I had surgery on 7/21. No major issues, used pain meds slightly and was release on 7/23 to go home. at 10PM the same evening, I broke out in a fever, chills, and overall felt like crap. Called the Doctors service, and he called me back in 20 minutes. Told me to take some pain medication (since it had Tylenol in it), and come see him in the morning. They did a chest xray and said I didn't have pneumonia, but there was some Fluid build up in my right lower lung. On 7/25, I began Water hurling, at 9am. Went back to see another Dr. in the same office and they ordered a CT scan to be sure I didn't have pneumonia. At 5 pm, I received a phone call from my Dr, saying I had "borderline Pneumonia", he called in an antibiotic which was just short of butt nasty when crushed. After hurling several more times during the evening, I went to the ER where I had my surgery and they admitted me to give me fluids and antibiotics. They too ran a CT scan. Yet, a 3rd Doctor from my clinic came and released me from the hospital on 7/26 after 18 hours in the hospital. Today, 7/28, I'm feeling much better. I walked 3 miles, keeping my liquids down and have dropped a little over 10 pounds in a week.

From what I hear, it is not uncommon for the lungs to collapse and fill with Fluid during surgery. That's why they have you use the spirometer to open your lungs. I told them, it's a great tool, but if you feel like crap, one cannot do that treatment every hour like they want. It may be my own fault, but lord knows I tried. Best wishes to you in your recovery!

Phil

The Fluid I have is beneath the lung, from what they are telling me. The surgeon thinks it is from where they removed my stomach from my chest from the hernia and the area filled with Fluid.< /p>

I have been doing some research and there are a few things I have found that could cause this, pneumonia, lung cancer, rheumatoid arthritis...

I have rheumatoid arthritis and I am wondering if that is the cause.

Another huge deal for me right now is just before I was discharged yesterday afternoon a lady came in from coordination of care and told me that my stay was under observation admit and not inpatient. No one ever told me that during any part of my stay.

When I was in the ER, they told me they were admitting me under my surgeons care/service. At no time did they say it was observation.

I have Medicare and what this means to me is that my Part A will not cover the hospital stay and everything they did during my stay in the hospital will be covered as though I was an outpatient.

This means that all of the tests and scans they did, labs, everything else will be covered at 80% and I am going to be responsible for the hospital stay.

This is not a good thing for me. =/

On the bright side I am feeling a lot better now but I do have a new kind of specialist, Pulmonologist. I have to have a third ct scan sometime soon.

I am going to have to sell my soul to try and pay for this hospital stay.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
