Did anyone tlse have trouble losing weight in the beginning?

Recommended Posts

I have lost a total of 15 lbs including pre surgery diet but only 2 lbs post surgery. Had surgery on July 15. It's frustrating to be eating so little and not losing. :(

I only lost 3 pounds in the first 10 days, and then lost at least 5 pounds the next week. I also lost a lot (about 15) with pre-op diet. At the beginning you're also still swollen and retaining fluids. Don't worry - the scale will move! Everyone loses at a different pace. I feel like I'm losing slow compared to others, but I just had a follow up appt and my surgeon was happy with my weight loss - she says she likes to see about 10 pounds a month - which seems so low to me compared to what I see on here... I'm a little confused, but trying to trust that I am on a good path.

Are you exercising? For me Exercising is essential, my body just does not repond without it.

My surgery was on July 16th. Are you watching your carb and fat intake? you should not be eating more than 5% fat or 5% carbs in your food choices, look and the label and see how much carb and fat and then straight across from the grams it should say % and should be 5 or less of each. DRINK YOUR Water and make sure your getting enough Protein daily. Please feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions, Good Luck Pamela

I had surgery on the 15th also. I gained 8 lbs. when I got out of surgery. That finally came off and yesterday morning I got up and had lost 6 lbs. overnight! I am down 2 more lbs this morning. Be patient! It's gonna happen for you soon. I have heard from my local support group it takes a couple of weeks to kick in, and then it takes off!

So glad you posted this. We can be so hard on ourselves and overlook the changes our body is undergoing. I was feeling so down this morning. because tomorrow is 2 weeks and I am only down 3 pounds post surgery. I have to focus on the fact that since June 17 (my first doctor's appointment), I have lost 46 pounds. (I have also been battling Constipation so I am returning to Optifast instead of a different Protein shake I have been using for a week which adds to my slightly grumpy demeanor.) Hang in there! We know if we work the plan, the plan will work!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
