my surgeon after approving me denied me a year later :(

Recommended Posts

I have went through everything he has requested me to do.. He had me visit psych, I did that for a month and a half and the psych doctor approved me for surgery. He had me meet with several people over the last year to get things ready for surgery. I even have been doing calls with health partners for coaching..... His concern is that surgery will mess with my mental health..... I feel like in all reality it will help my mental health. I feel so discouraged that I did everything I was asked to do just to be rejected my my own surgeon. I have a seminar to go to at a different hospital in the cities area on Tuesday at 6pm..... Wish me luck!!

Where do you live? Ive been working with surgical intensivists in Hawthorne NY. As long as you dont gain massive amounts of weight prior to surgery and do your clearances they approve you. They seemed like a pretty easy process to me. Ive started my journey in February and Im getting sleeved next month by Dr. Anthony Maffei. Go to nygetfit.com OH and they only require 2 day liquid diet post op!

The psych report came back OK, on what basis is he refusing? This doesn't make sense!

I would call the insurance company and find out what time frame you have/when the reports and procedure(s) result reports expire and just get copies of everything, go to another surgeon, and pick up where you left off.

I live in st.cloud MN. My doctor never asked me to lose weight and due to my meds and the deposit shot I gained 18 pounds in a span of like 6 months then he asked me to lose 40 pounds in 4 months in the first month and a half I lost 17 pounds. But when I visited him last he told me he wasn't sure if he wanted to go ahead with surgery so I cried because I have been waiting so long that's when he asked me to lose 40 pounds

@jennabean44 Don't allow a surgeon to unnecessarily frustrate you.... get your result reports and see someone else.

I hope things work out for you. I too deal with mental health issues, I have been cleared by everyone to have surgery. Cleared by everyone that is except my husband, he wants me happy yet he is worried about my mental health going foward with the sleeve on the 21st of august.I know he is just worried about what's best for me. Ugh, what to do!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
