So as I get closer to my surgery date, more and more questions and "what ifs" are popping into my head. Feeling anxious and excited- What if I get too flabby, what if I can't do it, what if I never love myself even after the surgery. But then again, its one step at a time & as long as im healthy, Im grateful. Taking it as it comes & hoping for the best. PS- exactly how much Protein should be taken in daily after surgery?

60 grams of Protein, very few people get that in the first week after surgery. I'm not looking forward to the excess skin either, but it's not like I look good now, maybe I will get plastic surgery on my tummy later on. I look at it this way, I will regret not having the surgery! God Bless!!!

Welcome to the site! I think most folks can only share what their dr tells them....I've noticed that there is a lot of variation. I'm still in the preop supervised diet phase so I can't comment specifically on your question. I want to share what a personal trainer once told me when I was asking a lot of questions similar to yours...she told me to turn each one into a positive question and write them down somewhere where you will see it. So... What will I do when I get flabby because I've lost so much weight, What will I feel like when I accomplish this, How will I go about loving myself....just calorie free food for thought...

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
