Is there a correlation with being cold and weight loss?

Recommended Posts

Me and fiance have always been in agreement about the temperature in our house. We're both always hot, so we keep the air like on 65 year round.. At work all the skinny girls are ALWAYS cold, so we always joke about how they don't have enough insulation etc..

Well.. this past week I've been literally FREEZING MY BUTT OFF at home!!!! I keep bumping the air off, and me and fiance fight about it. He walks over and shows me he's sweating, and I put my hands on him and I'm like an ice cube. I've never been the cold one ANYWHERE!! I'm not skinny(duh), so is there some kind of correlation between weight loss in general or, maybe because I'm not taking in a lot of calories yet? It's very new to me.

When you're not taking in enough calories to maintain your current weight your body tries to conserves energy anyway it can. That can mean feeling cold and tired. The way to get round it is to do some cardiovascular exercise which will boost your metabolism and get your body going again. I've been having the same problem for the past couple of weeks so I think it is a common thing.

This is so funny because I have always been the biggest person in any environment...and was usually sweating even in winter. But, since banding/losing weight...I freeze all the time! My metabolism is great and my bloodwork is perfect so I'm not unhealthy. I do believe it's because for years and years I did have so much "insulation" that now my body doesn't know how to regulate my temperature properly any more! Either that or it's totally mental and since I don't have so much padding I am just able to feel the colder temperatures more than I used to. Either way...my doctor says there's nothing wrong with me...it's just one of those new sensations we get get to finally experience like the other skinny people!!! Enjoy it...I do!

I'm cold all the time too! My DH is always laughing at me sitting with a big blanket over me while he has the fan on! I run my heater all the time at work too!:):(

Me, too! I'm a sweater -- no, not a piece of clothing! -- a person who sweats at the slightest rise in temp or activity (I blame it on my Dad's genes!). Anyhoo, I've been FrEeZiNg all week! Crazy! But if cold = weight loss... bring it on! I'll just get me a blanket! :)

mdrai- Me too. I'm not much of a sweater, I only sweat regularly on the bridge of my nose, but I'm normally ALWAYS hot with beads of sweat on my nose. Even in winter, I'm the only one in the office bumping the air on, etc. Feel like I'm in a permanent hot flash until a week ago. I'm trying to enjoy the fact that I'm not hot anymore, but I'm SO cold I can't get comfortable. Fiance keeps saying 'put on more clothes'!! I have been wearing flannel pj pants, camisole, BIG SWEATER, knee-high fuzzy socks and I'm still frozen...and he says put on more clothes!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
