My support group has members with all the 3 commom types of surgeries. The lap banders have the most complaints. The RYN'ers seem to be happy with the results. Sure everybody only wants one surgery, but the sleeve offers less complications than the bypass or the lap band. But all three surgeries have one thing in common, they all work if one keeps to the rules. You will find the surgery is only a tool. It is not magic. The mind game of weight loss is the hard part.

And I agree with you 100%. They all work but we have to make it work. Thank you for the info!

Actually intrinsic factor made in the stomach is needed to absorb B12. The sleeve can cause deficiencies in B12 which isn't usually an issue until about 2 years out, so taking B12 is important. Also long term complications are malabsorption of Calcium and phosphate as well which can lead to osteoporosis. I can't remember exactly how but the sleeve absolutely does cause malabsorption and it's important to take Vitamins with all bariatric surgeries.

It decreases but doesn't disappear

Here is an interesting article to see what a sleeve does:

Malabsorption means you can't absorb but being deficient is where things get complicated. And deficiency occurs with all WLS but it's a lot more with RNY. It's not about which one is better but what works best for you. Sleeve has great results but not a lot of data since it's new.

You have to go with what works best for you! Make sure you research and get the right data cause that's important to have before making the decision.

In my case sleeve was the first choice but my surgeon well known at NYU doc said go for RNY and I wanted to make sure I used my insurance for all cause I knew in the long run I might not have it and didn't want to go through a second surgery or wait it out again. For me this has worked and I am happy.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
