Today was my 2nd weigh in with my PCP. I lost 17 lbs the first weigh in and 2 today! I have 4 more to go. I also scheduled my psych eval for August 12th got prescribed chantix to quit smoking, went to orientation with my surgeon but don't actually have my first appointment with the office until September 22nd. I hope even tho I don't have my appointment with the office that I'm doing everything possible so that I can have gastric bypass in November.

Welcome to the site.

I sounds like you are definitely on the right track in taking care of yourself and preparing for surgery.

Just keep it up and everything will fall into place for you.

Good luck with getting your surgery date and having the surgery

Come back often.

Thanks guys! I've been lurking for a few weeks as I really didn't know where to post because I hadn't even met with my surgeon but this site really is so informative it really did help me stay on top of things prior to my Dr asking for it.

Can you keep us posted on your progress with Chanix? I have a PCP appointment 8/4 and I'm going to ask for a prescription. I've tried everything else but there is a physical ache with withdrawal that non-smokers wouldn't understand. I'm a little concerned because of all the adverse side-effects but the long term effects of smoking are so much worse. My surgeon is requiring me to be nicotine free for 90 days before surgery. So as soon as I can successfully get the nicotine out of my system I can schedule my surgery.

I've actually taken it before. Years ago prior to my divorce I took it and it worked AMAZING! They tell you to keep smoking for the first 7 days and that you'll eventually quit having the urge and that's no lie. It was literally the 7th day and I didn't want another cigarette. Why I gave my ex the power over me to start smoking again when we got divorced I have no clue but it is the first thing I did when I left the house ugh!

The only bad side effect that I had was really bad and vivid dreams & I'm actually bipolar so it's something that we really paid close attention too.

My biggest piece of advice would be to watch yourself emotionally and be thankful that 7 days in your need for a cigarette should be gone. Good luck!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
