5 weeks post-op and eating everything!

Recommended Posts

I am six weeks out and hungry! My doctor said that the fullness

you felt the first 2 weeks after surgery is from swelling. When the

swelling goes down, the opening is the size of a dime until you get

an adjustment. He calls those first 2 weeks the "Honeymoon period.

My first adjustment is this afternoon.

I can get just about everything down also, but I am kind of still in that phase where I have a little bit of will power. Every diet I've ever been on.....I was good for about 5 weeks and then it all fell apart. I haven't been perfect, but I keep telling myself that my first fill is in 6 days and I can make it. The amount of food I am eating now does not even compare to the amount of food I was eating before surgery.....and I am exercising. I had hoped to lose 30 pounds in the first thirty days, but that didn't happen....that's okay, at least I have lost some. They really don't want us losing more than 2 pounds a week when this evens out anyway, do they? If I average my weight loss, I have done really well. Hang in there everyone, this will get better!

I found out what sliming was on Saturday....I ate a small piece of steak (no problem for me right now if I cut it into pea size bites and chew, chew, chew) while I was camping....I didn't have a knife and I thought I was taking tiny bites....not so!!! I got soooooo sick. I threw up for 2 hours before I got it all up....it's one of the sickest feelings I've ever experienced.....I learned a BIG lesson that day. It's the first time I've had trouble with anything going down....it was a mistake I never want to repeat.

Hi,

I'm nearly 5 weeks post op and I still have trouble eating certain foods.

I am due to have my first fill on 12th July - but not sure if I need it yet. Can anyone out there tell me if they still have trouble eating bread and steak. I sneaked a bacon roll earlier this evening (whilst cooking them for my son's tea) and even though I chewed till mush it ended up really sticking and then coming back up!! I also find the same thing happens with steak (even though I chew really well!) although I do eventually manage to digest it!

I've been really lucky so far and this was the first time that I pb'd. I would have thought that bread would have gone down easily - but I guess not!

I've lost a total of 15lbs since surgery and seem to have lost interest in food at the moment. I actually quite like the feeling of not constantly thinking about food. It's quite a novelty but is this normal?

I starved my butt off during the pre-op. Everyone is different, but I wished someone had warned me that getting the band does not make hunger go away. I did not go in this blindly, I had done so much research and education that it wasn't funny. Though, I still had that secret expectation that this would cure me. The first couple days off I was not hungry and food did not entice me what-so-ever. I am 7 days post op and doing the "straw diet" as instructed by my surgeon. A few bites will fill me up to the point I can't eat anymore, but give me 1 hour and I am ravenous again. Though I am still not eating a lot therefore, I am losing weight. I am praying that my first fill will really show me the power of the lap band. But you may have a totally different experience... Good luck

This confuses me, because even with out a fill your new stomach is only capable of holding around 3cc's of food(right?). How can someone feel as hungry like they had no surgery???

I am still trying to figure that out!

I just attended a seminar (havent been banded yet) and they said that it is perfectly normal to become hungry before an adjustment. As far as the college money, well there are always scholarships! LOL

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
