I'm from the US so I can't help a lot with what tests you might have to go to but I do want to tell you Best Wishes and I hope it all goes as planned for you and you are wildly successful!

Each one of us had different surgeons and different requirements. In the US you might have to have a cardiac clearance with a stress test, sleep study, bloodwork, chest x-ray, pre-op classes, pre-op diet, meet with a nutritionist and a psychologist, come off certain meds a week before surgery (especially blood thinners), fill out paperwork, etc. Good luck!

Welcome to the forums! Many US insurance companies require a supervised diet period of either 3 or 6 months. It seems that most people can get all the pretesting stuff done during that time and then submit the insurance paperwork so another couple of weeks for that, then getting on the surgeons calendar. I'm guessing it would be much shorter if you are a private pay person...

Be aware that the time factor and even tests are in part dictated by insurance..and surgeon. Because of that you will get a wide variety of answers. From a few weeks to a year......from a endoscope to 5 or 6 different tests and ongoing nutritional meetings and counseling sessions.

I am one of the longer waits. My insurance requires 6 monthly meetings with my pcp for weight management/weigh ins, several nutritionists appointments, and psychological evaluation. My surgeon requires an endoscope/ upper GI and nutritional appointments and h. pylori test. He can requires additional tests based on medical issues.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
