I has surgery yeaterday at 7:30 am, was home by 1pm the same day and am feeling great, I have been eating chicken broth, yougurt, FF pudding and popsicles for the sore throat. gas pains are very minimal, I have had no porblems eating and have not felt nausiated! Im starting to wonder if there really is a band in there! I am craving p-nut butter any one have a reason as to why a spoonful of plain smooth p-nut butter would be bad?:help:

My surgeon said no on Peanut Butter till week 3. If your surgeon told you liquids for at least one week then you really probably ought to do that. I know it's hard, it was for me too but you don't want to damage your esophagus, band or tubing. Your still healing and still swelled. If your surgeon says it is okay then I wouldn't worry.

Congrats on being banded and welcome to bandland. Hope everything is going well for you.

Actually while you are healing you dont want your stomach to do ANY churrning for digestion...hence the total liquid diet.......... Dont push it!

I agree...you're way too "fresh" to do anything against your docs orders. Why chance it? Hang in there...you'll make it. So, I'd vote NO to pnut butter but go ahead and drink extra Protein Shakes or milk or whatever helps you feel better.

Thanks everyone, I dont know if it was cause I ate a spoonful of p-nut butter or maybe the pain meds are wearing off, but I am feeling like crap today! This is the first day I dont feel hungry, its gonna be hard to keep liquids down today!

Sounds like you were off to a pretty good start..I didn't do anything but liquids for the first two weeks after surgery....the broth just tasted bad to me, so I pretty much did little sips of Water for the first couple of days...and then I started little sips of broth, but after about 3 days I started drinking slim fast...4 oz's at a time....did this for 2 weeks...

feeling really bad again today, not hungry at all, weak and nausiated, eating less than 1/4 cup portions of cream of wheat, belended cottage cheese, SF Jello and trying to keep Water down. I havent thrown up yet. There is no way I will be back to work wednesday, I never thought I would feel this bad for this long.

The Peanut Butter is WAY to thick...there is still a lot of swelling and healing going on. You don't want the stomach to be digesting things churning and moving around right now while healing, this is why they are strick with the "liquid diet".

Not to mention Peanut butter is HIGH in FAT...

You may have partially clogged your opening. I would go to strickly LIQUIDs ( I couldn't even handle cream of wheat the first two weeks after surgery) and possibly try some warm liquids such as Decaf Tea, warm broth. This will help relax things as well as disolve any peanut butter that may be left in there. Good luck.

If you are not better in a day or two you may want to fess up to your doc!

If you were supposed to be on a liquid diet, then stay away from the cottage cheese, cream of wheat and that type of thing until you are given the go ahead to move on to mushies. You want to make sure that you are reasonably healed before you advance to the next stage of your post-op diet. PLEASE be careful. You'll feel better in a few days. You might be able to go back to work on Wednesday, just take it one day at a time, and let your body heal, and recover!

If I stick witjhliquids, I will throw up, mushies seem to settle my stomach, I am more nauseated when there is nothing in my stomach. Will see the Dr tommorow to see if I can get anti nausiate medicine

Hope you feel better soon. It shouldn't take too long to settle down. I'm amazed they sent you hbome the same day! I was in agony the next day and as high as a kite and very sleepy on the day of surgery! The discomfort soon passes though. I had mine on 20th Dec and still managed to enjoy my birthday on Xmas Eve! I drank a lot of milk when I first had my band, that might help settle your stomach.

Good luck! The doctor should be able to advise you.:)

Lucygirl, didn't you have Dr Oh? I thought his diet was about the same as my doctor - 4 weeks of liquids after surgery? I think your rushing it and might injure yourself if you push it.... How did your appointment go?

Mr Dr is Dr Billing with puget sound surgical ceter in Edmonds Wa. For day of the surgery and the next day I was on clear liquid. which included Jello, brooth, popsicles, Chystal light, diluted juice, and tea of coffe. day three thru eleven is full liquid which includes Milk, starined Soups, yougurt, pudding, protien drinks, and carnation instant Breakfast. day 12-19 is pureed, which include cottage cheese, mashed potatos, cream of wheat, strained fruit, pureeed vetables.

I fell great today Stomach wise, I was able to get another rx for nausea, this is a pill form and some valium. I think my biggest problem is my back injury which keep me heavily medicated on pain meds which make me nauseated.

The dr says my incisions look great and I am doing fine, he gave me some pictures of the proceedure! OMG:omg:

anyone wanna see?? LOL

Good news I am down 7.5 pounds in 6 days!!:clap2:

Bad news is my boss called today and fired me! anyone know a lawyer that would be willing to give me a free phone consolation?:help:

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
