Recommended Posts

Hello Ladies,

I have two questions. Here goes.

  1. After being banded did you notice any changes to your monthly cycles?
  2. Did you notice any changes to your sex drive?

Thank you for your help with thoughts you are willing to share.

After being banded did you notice any changes to your monthly cycles?

Yes. I have / had PCOS, and after about 3 months, I started getting my period every 28 days. I can now time my period with a stop watch.

Did you notice any changes to your sex drive?

Yes again. With my hormones sorted out, I did notice a big upswing in my sex drive. Not that it was bad before, but my sex drive did get a lot stronger.

1) yes. Your body stores excess hormones in fat. I took the pill for many years so as I lost, I released a LOT of estrogen into my body. At the advice of my gyno, I began taking progesterone cream to help keep it in balance. Bad PMS, ROUGH cycles. And oh yeah...became A LOT more fertile.....

2) yes. A LOT. Could just be from having a more healthy body. Could be that I'm nearing 40, a typical "hot" time for women. Dunno. Just know I'm as bad as any horny 14 year old boy. Thankfully my bf came along as a place to work out all that anxiety.......

Glad to hear it helped sex drive in some people..

In the past about 6 months, mine has been dead. I have to work REALLY hard to get psyched up for it.. and it's unusual, we use to be horn dogs and the sex is great with fiance.. but some reason I've just been really tuned out and turned off. I have gained quite a bit of weight in the past year, so I was HOPING it just had to do with the weight gain and when I lose weight it would help. I don't want to think we've hit any plateau at such an early age!

I wonder if the sex drive increase has anything to do with exercise. I notice that after a good long run, I am ready to jump on my DH as soon as I run through the door. Perhaps it's the testosterone? Endorphins? Magic fairy dust?

Whatever, I will not complain!

Actually I've started having horrible periods for the first time since they first began 25 years ago. My doc thinks I've developed a bit of endometriosis. I have foul period pain, lots of bloating and PMT and awful irritable bowel symptoms in the days leading up to. I've never suffered this type of thing before but it does run in my family, my middle sis has actually been left infertile by endometriosis so I couldnt say for sure if its band related, something that would have hit me anyway or just my reproductive system on the downward slide - I'm 39 going on 40.

As for my sex drive, I lost that about 11 years ago after my first baby, lol. Oh, we do it plenty and I always enjoy it but if it were left up to me to initiate I'd choose sleep every single night. I'd probably miss it if I went without for weeks and weeks, but I can say definitively that there's been no improvement to my libido with weight loss.

We actually have thyroid problems in the family too (with my middle sis again badly afflicted) and i've always tested normal with blood tests but basal temperature testing shows my body temp is very low - given that I also have very dry skin and hair, I actually suspect there's something amiss.

I have terrible PMS issues now but my cycle is more regular now than it ever was. My doc explained similarly as posted above...weight loss can cause hormonal imbalances so that explains the PMS. Yes, my doctor also said I am a lot more fertile than before as well.

As far as sex drive...no boyfriend right now...I got the "drive" just can't get no sex!!!! LOL.

1. Absolutely! Even on the pill, I'm now getting my period twice a month. My gynecologist said it should level off as my weight levels off. As has been said, its due to the homone stores.

2. Yes, but I think that it's more psychological than physical...I feel better about myself.

My PMS symptoms became a lot less severe after I was banded. I also no longer have as painful cramping as I did before. My cycles also seem to be a little lighter.

Sex drive? Meh. Not much change there.

1. Yes....Had horribly heavy periods all my life but you could set your clocks by them. Had an endometrial ablation (sp?) a year ago and still like clockwork but so much better as far as the amount and the time (I recommend that surgery!!!!). Last month I was an entire week late! The month before that I was about 10 days late. Not sure why except the weight loss maybe?!?!

2. No......I've got 3 kids, a dog, 6 cats, live on a farm, room mother, husband works 3rd shift and I have a home based decorating business....no time for extra sex...but should add when it happens it's definitely better with not so much fat in the way!!

I, too, had horrible periods. Cramps so bad it was like having the wind knocked out of me. Absolutely horrendous. And I couldn't be away from a bathroom for more than an hour because the blood flow was so heavy.

But, since being banded in February, my last 3 periods were a piece of cake (no pun intended). Minimal cramping, minimal pain and very normal blood flow. I was overjoyed!

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
