Protein Bar Suggestions

Does anyone have suggestions for "safe" Protein Bars? Any that we should avoid?

I was just looking at my doc's suggestions yesterday: my doc recommends Quest (I love them!), Balance bars, Myoplex Lite, Oh Yeah Natural Bar, Detour or the Simply bar.

My personal favorite is Quest chocolate Chip Cookie Dough. It's just like the real thing, and very easy to chew. My suggestion is go to GNC and get some single bars of things you find appealing and start that way.

Thank you! I was just reading " The BIG Book on Bariatric Surgery" and it recommended carrying Protein bars to help stay on track. *smacks forehead* Why didn't I think of that?!

I like the Quest Bars (White chocolate Raspberry) and some of the Atkins stuff (The hazelnut snack bar). Atkins usually only come in at about 15 gm of Protein while Quest comes in at about 20-22 gm of Protein. I prefer Quest Bars because they have lots of Fiber usually 15-19 grams. You will find on a high protein diet fiber is your friend. Best Wishes!

I have found the Quest bars are the best for me. These are the only ones that haven't made me feel bloated and gave me awful gas. They even have Protein chips but I haven't had those yet. If you go on Quest.com they even give you recipes that you can use. Good luck! :)

LOVE Quest Bars! They taste great and are very filling. Low sugar and high Fiber as well.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
