Hooray Ginger, congratulations on your date! To talk to those who have been banded recently you may want to check out the April bandster thread.

I'm not yet scheduled for lap-band, but wondering.....Why liquid diet before surgery? And, how long are you on this liquid diet? I work very long days, and it would be very hard for me to be on a liquid diet. My doctor has yet to tell me this part.... lol - but on the other hand.... all things are possible when you want it real bad. I want is REAL bad!!!

Good luck girl.... don't be afraid. I've had numerous surgeries, and you'll be okay. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

I was banded on the 24th, I am 4 days post-op. Pain wise I have done great, a little after my first walk, and another after I started using the spectometer. And even those were low doses, being a 2-3 on the pain scale. Other than that no pain other than alittle discomfort around my incisions, no bigge at all.

I have found I have no appetite, so far I am drinking my Water and my Protein, which is hard but I must do it and do. I do feel a little strange ,but good and looking forward to losing weight and feeling a little more normal, all part of the healing process. I was faithful on my pre-op diet for my 6 required days whicn helped me lose 17 pds.

Good Luck

I think you meant spectrometer which helps in looking a light in a certain way? Why would one be used for lap-band? I'm curious - first time I've heard of this. Are you into science?

Hello Ginger and Deb24...congratulations to both of you....I was banded on 4/6/07...It has been three weeks and two days since my surgery...Really and truly...the pain is not that bad....you will be uncomfortable for a few days, but the pain is not really that bad...You will have pain medication to take..and I took mine......I was on pain medication for first 4 or 5 days...I also had to have a hernia repaired....some of the pain I felt was from that...you will be more sore than anything...the port site is a little more sore than the other, but that will pass...I felt so much better after about a week....the gas pain you will feel in your chest, and left arm...take liquid gas-x and walk, walk, walk...as soon as they let you get up ....start walking...that will help to relieve the gas pains...good luck...and don't worry..you will be fine...but...take it easy for the first few days and don't lift anything heavy...and please follow the doctors orders to the "t"....don't do anything that he didn't say you could do...eating or anything else....just relax and take it easy for a few days...you will be fine...let us know how you are doing...I am excited for both of you....

First it's an incentive spirometer - this device is used after chest or abdomenal surgery. You are more likely to take short, shallow breaths. This device encourages you to take a deep breath and blow it out completely expanding and contracting the lungs... breathing exercise.

Second the liquid diet is much easier than you would think. The important thing is getting in the required 60+ grams of Protein daily and you should do just fine. You can do it with three Protein Shakes a day and a couple of drinks inbetween for Snacks. You should receive breaks at work and you can do this all during your assigned breaks. As long as you get in enough protein you will have the energy to keep going.

The reason: to hopefully loose some weight, and possibly decrease the size of some of your organs such as the stomach and liver. The liver sits right over the end of the esophagus right were the doc needs to work.

Hope this helps!

Thanx for all the useful info on the pre op diet. My doc Dr. Ali performs in Erie Penn. at Hamot medical center. He suggested Carnation sugarless instant Breakfast mix 7 days before op. 3 servings a day with Water in between. I am excited to start my journey to health with all of you. Be strong, nothing tastes as good as thin feels. Can't wait to test that saying. WE CAN DO THIS !!!!! G:)

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
