Today is the day! I am leaving for the hospital in 20 minutes!

I would like to use this post as my daily update/journal for the first 30 days so everyone can see what it is like for me!

I'll be back in a couple hours with my first post-op update!!

I'm over the moon excited and just ready to have this done.

I showed up to my appt at 12:30p and my appt was at 1p. I didn't get cut up until about 5p and I was home by 8:30p with some seriously intense gas pain in my chest. It was one of the worst night sleeps I have ever gotten.

Took a gas pill not sure if it worked or if time helped. I dry heaved about 6 to 8 times last night and at the hospital which I was thankful for as it helped with the pain a bit.

Woke up every hour to pee, it was exhausting. I know this surgery was the right choice but I feel like this was a bad idea. I know in a few days I will be fine and the pain forgotten.

Going to try Jello in a bit because as much as I love Water it is a pain to drink.

I asked for a catheter right after surgery lol i got up like 30 times it felt like . Of course i couldn't get a catheter. Congrats on making it post op

OMG! Sorry for the rough start...did your doctor discuss with you prior to surgery that this was going to be an outpatient surgery?? This is a very serious surgery for a couple of days of observation, before releasing a patient.

Not trying to be negative about your medical team....but was this the best decision to release a patient so soon??

There are many doctors who do this as an outpatient. I have had a few friends have it done that way. I don't think it's a sign of a questionable doctor. A large portion of the folks on here (including me) went home day after.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
