post op belly bruising ?

Recommended Posts

I have two big bruises along the sides of my lower belly, one on each side, and 3 or 4 blood dots near them. Those could be from the Lovinox shots but I can't figure out what the bruises could have come from....... not anywhere near incisions. Do they use clamps to stabilize our bellys during surgery or something? I know when I had my robotic laparoscopic hysterectomy I had bruising but that's because we're put in a few positions but this wasn't done robotically.

Anyone else have/had unexplained bruises?

Yep...one big one right where I got my blood thinner shots. Not near any incisions either. Tender to the touch, but not painful. I made a note to follow up with my surgeon.

Yes, I had all kinds of bruising on my belly! It's from the instruments, Lovenox and incisions....all three! Again, everyone is different; if you are fair skinned and/or have a lot of loose skin you may not bruise as much. If you already bruise easily (which I DO!) you're likely to have lots. Unless it does not resolve, then check with your MD. This is something that the discharge nurse OR surgeon should have told you about in the hospital!!! Shame on them if they didn't prepare you!!

Bruising is common following any invasive procedure. I had severe bruising on my lower belly after my RNY surgery. It lasted about 2 1/2 weeks before fading away. I also had bruising about my chest and right arm following rotator cuff surgery, but not w/my gallbladder surgery.

Bruising with pain and/or swelling could be an indication of complications. Always inform your medical team of any concerns you have so they can advise you. :-)

Lovenox is also a blood thinner, therefore bruising is totally normal. I look like someone beat the crap out of me :)

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
