I am excited to say that I have started in earnest of the "jumping of the hoops".

Psych eval - check

1st visit with Primary Care Physician - check

1st appt with dietician - scheduled for next week

Starting a 1500 calorie diet (tomorrow had to get it all straight today)to get my mind and body ready - and show the insurance that I mean business - check

So, my insurance requires 3 months of monitored weight loss - no specific amount needed

2 dietician appts

So, I should be getting all my stuff to the nurse who handles all of the insurance approval around mid October.

How long does it take for insurance to approve it? I know all insurance is different.

I know I have the 2 week liquid diet for pre-op. My great hope is that I could have surgery on or as close to November 13, 2014 as possible.

I teach school. This would give me 1 week off (sick leave) and the the week of Thanksgiving to recoup.

Please tell me this is a reasonable timeline. I am pumped!

PS- taking some "pre" pictures tomorrow.

Hey you, we are about in the same time frame...I'm a couple weeks ahead of you in that I had my first nutritionist apt on 07 July. I'm hoping to have surgery the first week of December because that is the best time for me to be off work. I'm also a former classroom teacher...high school science and math B) Good luck and I'll be looking for your posts!

I've started the hoop jumping, as well. Had my WLS consult 6/30/14. First dietician appt online 7/15/14. I have my psych eval tomorrow morning (7/24/14) and pcp visit tomorrow afternoon (7/24/14). I also have the 90 days of medically supervised weight management as an insurance requirement. My next reg. dietician appt is Aug 18. I had an appt with my rheumatologist last week. My surgeon told me that he wants clearance from her as well. She said that she doesn't think it's a good idea right now, until my lupus is under control. I am religiously taking all of my meds, because no one wants to feel better more than me. I explained that I have the 3 months of weight management anyway, therefore the surgery wouldn't be until the end of the year. I go back in 2 months to see her and she said we'd talk about it again, then. My deductible and annual oop has been met for the year, so ideally I'd like to have my surgery in November. fingers crossed

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
