My NUT cancelled the day before I start my two week liquid diet.. Help!

Recommended Posts

So my nutritionist has taken a vacation and I'm scheduled to begin my two week liquid pre-op diet tomorrow. Usually my appointments refresh my motivation, and I really needed this appointment because I'm feeling extremely overwhelmed as it is. I have a basic guideline listing full liquids: hot cereals, cream Soups, yogurt, pudding, custard, milk, sherbet. And Clear Liquids. But it doesn't say if I do full liquids for a week and switch, or what to do. Any tips or advice is greatly appreciated! What did you eat... I mean drink during this diet?

Is she in your surgeons office? Meet with him or maybe a nurse practitioner ?

I feel like if you call in to the office someone there can most likely give you the information you need. Good luck

It is something that is needed, attendance mandatory to proceed? Or is it you need to talk? If you just need to talk to someone, you are welcome to message me and we can talk over the phone, or skype. I don't know if it will help.

Also - check your extended area for some support group meet ups, and keep a calender of what you find, so you have it at a glance, should you need support.

Oops I posted this like three times.. Sorry I'm new.. Lol. She generally is in my surgeons office but she's on vacation. So his office gave me a paper with the basic guideline but it's vague.

If you don't get any more clear instructions on the pre-op liquids, here is the break-down of what is required from Loyola University Medical Center:

1) 4 1/2 cans of "High Protein" Slim Fast daily

OR

2) 5 1/2 packets of "No Sugar Added " Carnation Instant Breakfast Drink with fat free or 1% milk daily.

OR

3) 5 individual cartons of Atkins Advantage daily

OR

4) 4 1/2 bottles of "Glucose Controlled" Boost daily.

Notes: a) Each selection is approximately 800 calories and 60 grams of Protein.
These instructions also allow Crystal Light, Water, Decaf tea, sugar free Gelatin and sugar free popsicles.
c) Paragraph about diabetes:
**If you have diabetes and are taking oral
medications and/or insulin, you will want to discuss this with the doctor who
manages your diabetes. You may also choose to use products that are NOT
"low carbohydrate" versions. Make sure to monitor your blood sugars more
closely as this is a very drastic change in your diet. Call your doctor if you
experiencing high or low blood sugars.

Caveat: My bariatric team is not your bariatric team, but you asked, so I put this out there as an example. It worked well for me, but your mileage may vary. Good luck with your surgery.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
