Well I ever be able to eat a bite of pizza again?

:(

I have no experience in this yet, but I can tell you, my sister had bypass in 2006, and she eats pizza, matter of fact, just this weekend we were together and she ate a slice of thin crust pepperoni.

I had surgery in Nov 2013. No pizza yet. Still not sure on bread. Have eaten some, but got too full and couldnt eat anything else. My daughter had surgery over 6 years ago and she has had pizza. Have had some people tell me they eat the topping only. Just not anxious to get back in old habits. Trying for new, healthy ones.

Yes you will. When they start selling a 4 bite pizza, then I will start eating them again.

You may find that your tastes change. I tried pizza twice now and it just does not interest me. I can say the same for hamburgers, pork chops, chicken, steak, and tuna. I could eat 2 jars of pickles a day if I let myself, and I could eat Wendy's chili all day long.

My NUT said she advises her clients to eat the toppings first, and a bite or two of crust if you're still hungry at that point.

I've made pseudo-pizza using a portobello mushroom cap as the base and filling it with a tbsp of sauce, cheese and ham (ham because it has more Protein than pepperoni). It wasn't quite pizza, but the resemblance was close enough that it took care of the cravings.

I've seen a few recipes posted for cauliflower crust to make pizza on (my one attempt pre-surgery was disaster, but I plan to try again), and one using chick pea flour bread. I haven't tried either of these since my surgery, but they are on my "try someday" list. The "bread" made with chick pea flour isn't too bad, and would likely work quite well for Pizza Crust. I used whole wheat tortillas (pre-surgery) to make pizza on as well. Or even 1/2 a sandwich thin would work.

I can't envision myself eating 'real' pizza, but making a healthier version? That I would do in a minute.

You probably WILL be able to eat a bite of pizza, sure!! As others have said, you just have to keep from going back to bad habits. You will also need to eat EVEN LESS than you think, because it expands and can make you really uncomfortable. This also assumes you have no lactose intolerance after surgery, which some do.

I can eat 1 piece of cheese pizza and be "full as a tick". When I get that craving, I'm able to dash it quickly, rather than eating everything ELSE in sight to satisfy the craving!

You don't have to give up EVERY good food FOREVER; however, the surgery alone will not do it for you magically, so you have to put forth effort on your part too.

Absolutely Yes! Most people that have RNY are eventually able to eat at least 80% of the foods they were eating pre surgery. I am a year post op. I have eaten pizza. Normally I order just cheese pizza. I order thin crust in an 8" personal size and eat half. I don't eat pizza very often, I have probably only had it six times in a year. You might have to modify what your favorite is, but you WILL eat pizza again.

At just over 3 months out I had my first slice of pizza after surgery. A 3 x 3 inch square filled my up but it was by far the best pizza in the world. You will eat it again, that and a lot of other things you can't in the beginning.

Yes! I can eat pizza without any trouble. Only thing is I now have one small slice where I used to have three or four large ones.

pizza was definitely a trigger food for me so I am going to steer clear.

I got heavy because I ate a lot of the wrong foods. I am not going to go back to those bad habits. I have worked too hard before surgery and especially after surgery to not continue to eat properly.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
