I like muscle milk and GNC lean shakes.. I don't do a lot of them anymore since I could eat normal food . My Dr. and nutritionist do not want me to use Protein shakes much only if I am on the go or want to do liquids for a few days..

I love lean body RTD shakes. They come in 25g and 40g of Protein. I also love OhYeah! those have 32g Protein and come in a variety of flavors. They are a little expensive but because I have always only substituted them on the go anyway they are almost a treat and did I mention they are delicious. The last one I recommend is 52 E it is only found at HEB grocery stores in TX but the vanilla is tasty when I can't get my hands on one of the others. There are links below so you can take a look at the nutritional details.

My nutritionist and surgeon feel the same. They say after surgery they would like most of my protein to come from real food. Especially once I am back on solids. The reason they do this is because the shakes are liquid and slide right past the band.

I prefer the RTD Atkins Advantage. I"m still pre-op, but I got to try several kinds before starting on the stuff my Dr gave me.

I have been using Body Fortress in chocolate for over 2 years. My wonderful recipe is:

8 oz. unsweetened vanilla almond milk

1-scoop the powder

about 1-teaspoon Decaf instant coffee

about 1-teaspoon peppermint extract

tons of ice

The shake is as thick as McDonald's and delicious. I am drinking mine now. I have 1 every morning for Breakfast. I have a small Hamilton Beach blender that measures your milk and also is a drinking mug. It cost under $20.

Good luck.

Arlene

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
