I got a call back from the my dotors office. My insurance requires a 6 month medically supervised diet, before I can be authorized for surgery. I am still optimistic. I have been on diets before but never one prescribed by my doctor. This time will allow me to save more in my health savings account. Maybe this diet will even takes some weight off . Thanks for all the responses to my first post, the support is great.:biggrin1:

Your right,

That's a great positive way to look at things. You'll get a great headstart and lose some weight preop. My insurance is Anthem BC/BS PPO and they told me the same thing and I was just too impatient and went to Mexico. So far after fills and long 10 hour drive for fills and 2 overnights stay each time I'm quickly approaching the 20 grand out in cash so far so good for you. Good luck on your upcoming surgery, you will love your band.

WELL I WAS JUST TOTALLY UPSET. I WENT TO A SEMINAR 3 DAYS AGO. I FILLED OUT THE PAPERS FOR THE DRS, TO CONTACT MY INSURANCE. THE LADY AT THE SEMINAR SAID SHE DID NOT THINK BLUE CROSS BLUE SHIELD (PPO) HAD A DIET REQUIREMENT. SO I WAS THINKING I COULD GET IT DONE SOONER.

???

And what happened? I take it that your ins co DOES have a diet requirement? You didn't say what the problem was in your post.

I would never take the word of someone who worked in the MD's office. I listen to their experience to guide me as to how long it may take to hear and how often they get approal the first time around, etc... But I always advise folks to call you ins co yourself and ask them what thier requirements are for Adjustable Gastric Banding. And then have them send those to you in writing.

I have a 12 month MD supervised program requirement, I've been working on it for 14 months now. It is a long road, but you can make it through anything!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
