I happened to mention to my mother that I was a candidate for weight loss sugery and she swiftly reminded me of a cousin who died from it. The responses you get from people will hardly ever be filled with joy. There will always be stories of someone who died, someone who never lost weight, someone who took the easy way out by having surgery etc. It irritated me that my mother said that to me, especially since she taught me everything that I know about food addiction and really doesn't know what caused my cousin's death.

What I do know is that getting a gastric sleeve is not going to fix my brain. That's why it's referred to as a tool and nothing more. There are people who fail at weight loss surgery, but we all know that it's not the surgery that fails them - it's a return to the same destructive patterns that got them fat in the first place.

If you do what you've always done, you will be who you always are. The real question is not whether the surgery will work for you, but have you done the work on yourself (on your brain and in your heart) to stop doing what you've always done.

You can succeed at this if you have done the legwork and are well prepared to do the afterwork.

@@lastingdreams @@Urbanlamb we all had our surgeries on the 18th!!! And to @@lastingdreams I to compare my numbers when I look at others profiles lol.

So my favorite response from someone when they found out I was having WLS. Is "why don't you just go on the biggest loser or something?" My response "oh I never thought of that" as I walked away..... LOL people are ignorant especially when they have no idea what you are going through.

I think everyone has the fear that they will fail. I do not think like that. I just remind myself that WLS is a tool. It is not a miracle. I am happy. My whole life I would work

Hard and loose a lot of weight. One year I worked hard and I lost 85lbs. I see the sleeve as a tool that will help me control my eating to help me keep the weight off. My nutritionist says it is the tool to help with maintenance.

So do not get discourage. Just think positive!!! This surgery for me is going yo help me get off my blood pressure medicine and save my kidneys.

I think my response would have not even been the slightest bit polite....I would have told them ' why don't you just go and ------------ yourself. That is the rudest thing I have ever heard.....

Here is a better reply. I have already been the biggest loser the day I met you. You arse! boy am I steamed over this comment by this fool!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
