cube68 70 Posted July 20, 2014 Went to the hospital the other day, to start non-surgical medically assisted weight loss, but now it looks like I'm going the surgical route. I think the sleeve sounds less scary than the bypass, what does everyone think. 46 years old, bmi 47.7, type 2 diabetes for 9 years, cpap for 15 years. 4me4them 381 Posted July 20, 2014 Welcome to the forum! Lots of good info and supporting folks here. I am two weeks into my required 3 month supervised diet in preparation for gastric sleeve. Everyone has to select their surgery, with the surgeons recommendations. They all have advantages and disadvantages. I selected the sleeve because I didn't want a permanent medical device in me and I didn't like the idea of the port/fills....but that's just me! Good luck, read all you can, listen to your surgeon and then you'll know which one is right for you.
BeagleLover 1,020 Posted July 20, 2014 Welcome! I feel most comfortable with the sleeve. It doesn't have a complication rate of the lap band, nor the re-routing/malabsorption of the gastric bypass. A big plus is that the part of the stomach the produces the hunger hormone is removed. I think that will make it easier to stick with the program long term. Defying Gravity 52 Posted July 20, 2014 I don't know why but the bypass freaked me out! I didn't even want to consider it, even though the sleeve is permanent. Best of wishes to you - I honestly think that it's the best decision I ever made. I say, whatever you instinctively feel more comfortable with is probably the best choice, though I encourage you to ask around as much as possible because there's nothing to truly prepare you for the surgery, so it's best to be excited about it and feel informed going in. 1 BeagleLover reacted to this
