2 weeks out and eating solids

Recommended Posts

Hey All! I'm a newbie and was converted to the sleeve on 7/8/14 and while grilling ribs for the family, I tasted the rib and it went down great! So, today I tried a bunless burger and it went down fine as well, I've really been hungry and I'm so tired of the shakes. Am I eating too soon? Is anyone else struggling with eating solids too soon? Help.

I am nervous to tell you the truth. I just hate that I even tasted it!!! I was hoping that it came back up! But it didn't at all.

Just wanted to know if anyone else struggled with it. Was hoping that I wasn't the only "weak" person to struggle with eating early.

I've seen several posts like yours. I won't say it's ok but I will say that you are stronger than this. I know it's hard and I know you want to taste real food, but your time will come. Stick to your plan, protect your new tummy and be careful. I'd hate for you to damage your staple line with something you shouldn't have. Your long term health depends on YOU doing what you are supposed to do.

I think everyone struggles - wanting food post-op is normal.

The issue is SHOULD you...the answer is "You should follow your doctor's/surgeon's plan"

Just because you didn't get sick doesn't mean it's right. Just because it felt great the first time, doesn't mean you should have done it the 2nd time.

You're still healing - that's why doctorsvprescribe a post-op plan that slowly incorporates foods.

You went thru a lot to have this surgery - honor that. Be strong, don't give in. Get back on your meal plan.

You're not alone, I wanted to eat solid food really bad during those first weeks post-op. Fortunately for me, Frankensleeve wouldn't approve of anything. I could eat a tablespoon full of anything and he would start acting like a garbage disposal with rocks in it! So I was on a diet that consisted mostly of Cream of Mushroom Soup for over a month, before I was able to tolerate "tougher" foods like ground chicken or turkey and refried Beans. chicken, eggs and salsa were the toughest foods to readjust to eating. Even at 18 months post-op, sometimes scrambled eggs or chicken still causes a little clenching in my stomach.

Hang in there, it will get better. All too soon, you're going to be looking back and celebrating your 1 year Sleeveaversery.

I didn't experience this personally, because I couldn't really eat much of anything at 2 weeks post-op. I know everyone will stress to you that this is dangerous--and it is. But I know that's not what you're asking. Yes, we've all had various struggles with temptation. food will always be there to tempt us. My worry for you is just that if you're tempted to taste ribs and burgers now, what will keep you from eating these tempting high calorie foods as your sleeve heals? I am not judging you because I've been there--I have met a giant cookie in a local store that keeps trying to seduce me--but maybe you can talk to your counselor or social worker about your issues with food while your body is healing. Give yourself a little extra strength to fortify your already brave and determined nature. (Because we are all courageous to go though this process!)

Best of luck! :)

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
