Softball and the lap band

Recommended Posts

I am considering going for the lap band, and am doing a ton of research before May first appointment on May 8th. I have been reading post on this board for over 3 months now, and I must say it's been unbelievably helpful.

Here's the question. I am an avid softball player. Even for a Big guy (350 lbs) I get around pretty well. Im worried that If I have the surgery I wont be able to play softball for a long period of time, or for ever for that matter. my worry stems form the Port. I worry that if I get hit with a line drive, it will damage the port somehow. Any help on this would be great

You should be able to play Softball. You would need to take a season off just to make sure you are completely recovered or take a few weeks to recover after the procudure. I don't see why you couldn't wear some type of stomach guard like a belt they have for dirt bike riders. My husband has one for a kidney belt and it is velcro. It would protect your stomach if a ball hits you. If you get hit any time hard in the stomach you have the potential of damaging the port. It is very small the size of a quarter. I can do anything with my band that I did before. Actually a lot more because I am exercising and doing a lot more with the weight coming off. Feel better and look better. Good luck with your journey. I love my band and it isn't easy but I am determined to get down to my goal weight and keep it off for life!!!!!!

You probably won't want to play the sport right away but give it a few weeks and you will be good to go.

The port is under a fat pad and over a muscle. So for a bit you'll have some padding there. ;) But with time the padding will go away and honestly, you'll forget it's there for the most part.

I still ride 4 wheelers, our streetbike, and do everything I use to do when my bad back will let me but the lapband doesn't stop me from anything. You should be fine.

I was playing tennis 2 weeks after surgery. It is a very quick recovery. I know tennis is not as rugged as softball, but to play singles it is alot of movement.

I had my surgery in February and I was back in the batting cages a month later. You may have some port pain from the swinging the bat but this decreases over time. I don't feel anything now.

I wouldnt worry unduly, you could get barrelled into by a small child, be hit in a car accident, fall over and land on something, being hit in the guts by a softball is no more likely than any of those incidents.

I played softball for many years and dont recall ever being hit in the stomach. I got hit full on in the throat once and couldnt speak for about 3 days and I broke my hip when I was 16 batting but never got hit in the stomach.

Physically, I could run and lift and do vigorous stuff within 2 to 3 weeks.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
